I have a bravo 100 hlx which was registered in september 2001 and this car wasnt given abs as standard until october / november 2001, so i'm just wondering if there is any way of telling if the car has abs, for example something under the bonnet???

Thanks

ABS was made standard on all Bravo/a models built from July 2001, although some old stock may have remained that was registered later than this date. There are a couple of easy checks:

1) A passenger airbag was also made standard at the same time. If you have the airbag, you will probably have the ABS

2) When you turn on the ignition an orange light should appear amongst your instruments that is a circle with 'ABS' written inside it. When you start the car (or after a few seconds) it will go out (this is the easiest way to tell)

3) If all else fails, find a nice open road with no other traffic on it, get up to a reasonable speed (60+) and stand on the middle pedal (and I mean stand  ). If the wheels lock-up you don't have ABS, if they don't AND you get a 'pulsing' through the brake pedal you do have ABS. If you do lock the wheels up, get of the brakes before you hit a hedge :D
