hi, ive just taken my bravo 1.2sx for its m.o.t and unfortunately its failed on its emissions test.

its failed on the co test max 0.30% and mine read 0.56%

does anyone know what i need to repair to fix this?

cheers

ive just had the head gasket done last month so it had a full service then

cheers

This is EXACTLY what has happened to mine. It went for MOT yesterday and failed also on emmisions, mine was 0.5% and should be 0.3 or less. I also had head gasket problems previous, unfortunately I had to replace my engine as the head was damaged. My mechanic says that the CAT is contaminated, so I am having mine replaced tomorrow, will let you know how it goes. He says that the engine sensors will get it to about 0.5%ish and then the CAT removes the last bit when it has warmed up. I am assuming that all the other readings for HC etc were OK.

yeah the other readings passed but was still high. So im worried that when i take it back it will fail on those. Im not sure wether i have to replace the lambda sensor aswel because they can get contaminated when the head gasket goes, but its £70 that you might not have to spend if its just the cat that needs replacing.

CO max 0.30% 0.56% FAIL
HC max 200ppm 186ppm PASS
Lambda 0.97-1.03 1.02 PASS

My car has at last passed its' MOT. The CAT change did the job. Up to you now I guess, but your figures were pretty much as mine were on Wednesday, and now they are all good. Just for Info, these cars do run close to the higher limits anyway on CO2 and HC even when they are running normally.

brilliant thanks for your help i will get that done today then. how much did a cat cost you then?

I got mine for £80+VAT and then fitted. They are on Ebay for £64.99 + Postage but they are not Type approved, although if your car is pre 2000 then it does not matter, although not sure how long those would last. Good luck.
