Been a while coming but the problem is getting worse now i have done the following to try and help cure the problem:

Battery is fine its new
New plugs and leads

But still each time i leave it till the morning i go to start it and it barely turns over, almost the same sound you would get with a flat battery, yet the battery is fine.

It also stalls when coming to crawling speed to a junction when it does finally start and continues until the engine warms up.

Any idea what it might be fellas?

Cheers

I'm clueless with the mechanics of a car, but could the air intake be at fault? If battery is good and it's having probs at low speeds is there enough (or any) air getting to the system?

its a 1997 1.4 SX.
Also noticed a slight squeaking now too, sounds like a belt slipping (n)
Going to have a good look today at the alternator and starter and see what appears:cool:

Cheers for your suggestions so far!

Well i checked over the starter motor, changed the fuel filter but since run out of time and light to check over the alternator.

Seems that it wont start fully and idle now or if it does its very short lived and dies out.

Get a multimeter and put it on the battery wilst the engine is off. It must have betwen 11.8 and 12.5 V. Then turn on the car and put the multimeter again on the battery. If it shows betwen 13.5 and 14 V it's good. This is far at the alternator problem goes. If it doesn't show you this voltages and the voltage commes down when the engine is on you could check the leads to the alternator. The sqeek you are talking about it might be that one of the bearings is failing, now it could be the alternator bearing, the water pump bearing, the assisted steering pump, or the ac compressor bearing if you have. Hope it helps you.

Turned out to be a multitude of things, the squeaking was the oil rails for the camshaft, they were clogged and the cam was starting to run dry metal on metal (n) cleaned the rail out with an old bike brake cable till the wire went all the way into the tubes till you could see the end poke through the mounting holes and all is good so far!
The bad starting was the starter motor, a new refurbished one sorted it all out (y)

thanks for the assistance and sorry the replies been so long winded, the other cars taken preference over this one lol.
