Car is a Bravo 1.4 'S' Reg, and had the clutch replaced maybe 1000 miles ago. I got the job done in the cheapest, grottiest East Glasgow garage I could find, as I would normally do the work myself but was in the middle of Uni exams.

The clutch has juddered since I got the car back, but this seems to be reducing over time. I put the judder down to it being a new clutch.

Now there is a repetitive noise from the clutch that disappears the moment you apply pressure to the clutch pedal (and a visual check shows the noise disappears the moment the slave cylinder moves the clutch fork arm). This noise has been getting worse the last 200 miles, and to give an idea of the sound at first I thought it was a faulty injector. A rapid ticking noise.

As is now traditional for me, I post here for an opinion (usually Jugs!)......thanks for any opinions as to what might be causing this noise. Gear selection etc is fine.....

i get the same noise
it is the thrush bearing in the clutch
 
imo it cant be the thrust bearing if noise goes away as soon as you touch pedal.

your description sounds exactly like a noisey fork ball contact point (and sounds like nothing else so i'd be pretty much certain that is what it is)

why is it noisey? the fork isnt touching the thrust bearing, that slight gap between them allows the fork to tap against the bearing and the fork to tap against its pivot point. when you push the pedal even a tiny bit it closes that gap, stopping the noise.

on cable clutches this is easily fixed, you can adjust the cable to stop it. on hydraulic clutches you can do that, so you need to take the gearbox off and determine why there is a gap between fork and bearing (usually its due to wear on the pivot point). however that is a lot of hassle, so i usually try to stop the noise by moving the slave cylinder a mm closer to the fork, which pushes the fork a mmm closer to the thrust bearing. give it a go.
 
Thanks guys, I guessed it wasn't the thrust bearing as that would only be noisy when the clutch pedal was pressed; it's a hydraulic clutch btw* - a wee project for this evening then when the wife gets home, see if I can move the slave cylinder or otherwise adjust it.

*I once argued 'black was white' with someone on this forum that my car had a cable clutch.....was shocked to find it was hydraulic next time I tinkered with that area of the car. Apologies to who-ever it was........
