With 27Ltr's of Fuel and when i drive at 40Mph my fuel consuption is round 160miles, i've noticed this for the last few months .

Anyone has a clue why i am having such a low mileage compared to a 240Miles in other posts.

Does it run ok? Try putting some injector cleaner in the tank.[?]

Also have a look at youre spark plugs, if theyre black or sooty its running rich.

Unfortunately the 1.4's are pretty bad when it comes to drinking. Hence Fiat replaced it with the more economical and a bit more powerful 1.2

Fuel consumption figures are on here http://www.bravo-guide.co.uk/run-a-bravo.htm#part7

Well, I recently went down south from Aberdeen to Lincoln which is a 460 mile journey and i wanted to test everyones claims about the 1.4 SX's fuel consumption. I made 280 miles (City and Motorway) on 3/4 of a tank of normal unleaded. So presuming that i didn't fill back up at that point i should have got about 373 miles! Is this right?

Nope

Unfortunately the fuel gauge does not work like that. You will find that the bottom half gies twice as quick than the top. When I first got mine I was amazed. I got 250 out of half a tank and couldt believe my eyes. The second half on the fuel guage managed 100 miles b4 empty.

Dont trust the fuel gaugue!

Mine is the same, I have no idea why!

same here, I will do about 270 mile off half a tank then just sit and watch the fuel guage go down while im stuck in traffic, i get about 300 miles per tank out of mine around town.

I filled my 1.2 up after doing 500 miles on a tank :D
driving consists of some town driving and bit of motorway driving

57 litre tank in my Brava, although bravo-guide.co.uk say its 50, which I assume means just the bravo with the same engine as mines, while 60 litre for the 1.8,2ltr and diesels.

just as a guide, 280 miles using 37 litres is about 34mpg.
you do have at that point about 3 gallons of fual left in the tank if going by bravo-guide (if youve got your manual, best see what that says for tank size) so you do have a fair amount of fual left

I think the manual also mentions that there is a 7 litre reserve as well, thats why you got the extra 7 in there.

Somethings gotta go wrong 'cos i'm feelin' way too damn good!

must of been rewritten for the time my brava was made as it says 57 litres tank inlcuding the reserve of 7 (why do they bother saying about a reserve, just a 57litre tank really)

What I would like to know is where the 'reserve' kicks in ie. is it when the petrol light comes on, or when it's down to the red line or what? It might be handy to know one day :)

I filled up last night and stuck 55 litres in the car, it was at the single dot above the base red line. So only 2 litres left in the tank from what I assume.
Think as a rough guide the so called reserve is when the light comes on

I think I can beat you! I have a 1.4 sx brava also. A FULL tank gets 280 miles !! thats 28 MPG
I have checked the norm - plugs, brakes, filter, oil. I have no mods to my knowledge on the car. . . . .

Taking it to engine tuner on friday - will let you know the outcome. . . . . .

Well the saga continues. . . .

No problems with the ECU at all, in fact the tuning guy was very surprised at how spot on it was.

After me standing over the mechanic for 2 hours, (I wanted to get my moneys worth since I was charged £41 to plug into the ECU.)

Eventually we put it up on the ramp and looked at the fuel return pipe area and tank. Think the fuel consumption may be down to 2 things.

1. Possibly a very small leak in the fuel return.
2. Possibly a leaking tank.

On inspection an area around the hoses was damp (but not smelling of petrol) and so was an area around the tank(Right by a strap holding the tank in place.)

The leak must be negligible as there have been no damp patches leaking underneath when parked. Next step is to get the pressure washer on the underneath and have a proper look. . . . .

Anyone else had aa similar problem? ?
