Re: boot lifting struts

Would have thought the lifters from an Alfa 156 would be more suitable?

i think they are secured in place using a circlip on each end. that means you'll need to fix a couple of mounts (same as the ones used in boot) in the appropriate place in the engine bay and on side of bonnet, probably best to weld them in place.

dont do anything until you are sure the position of both mounts will allow the bonnet to fully open (not easy due to length of struts), and you're sure the struts have enough pressure to keep the bonnet open. imo they defo wont be able to open the bonnet because they cant even open the boot, but they might keep the bonnet open if you're lucky, but test first.

Re: boot lifting struts

Bravo gas springs are mounted on ball joints on both sides. Pull them off to remove. They are just perfect to lift the bonnet (right length open/closed, enough force).

You'll need two screws with M6 thread and a ball at the head. One screws in place of the hex screw in front of the strut mount, the other goes in place of the upper (when open) screw of the bonnet's hinge.

Here comes a tricky part - they're quite hard to get. You might try using ones from a different car at the scrapyard. What I did i got ones from a Cinq and got them re-threaded from M8 to M6.

Re: boot lifting struts

well there are a pair on ebay which would save me removing a pair from the brava in my local scrappy.
they seem to lift my boot up fine so i dont see a problem with them lifting the bonnet...

alfa 156 ones would be hard to get but i did think about stilo bonnet struts!

i already have the mounting screws with the balls on the end as i bought an INXX kit off ebay. (which didnt work because the pins wouldnt fix in grr!). and they also dont lift the bonnet very far (being a tallish person) lol.

there is already a guide on fiat boo!

try removing the struts in the boot and then open the boot by hand, putting your hand where the strut attaches to the boot. this gives you an idea of the force the strut works against (not much tbh). now repeat this on the bonnet, again putting your hand where you plan to attach the strut to the bonnet. all of a sudden you're struggling to open the bonnet at all

i would expect (using very basic principles of physics) to find that when you put the strut far enough forward to enable it to lift the bonnet, it will also be too far forward to open the bonnet far enough for working on the engine. the 2 main reasons are weight and leverage differences.

Re: boot lifting struts

ok il give this a try

i may even put the boot struts on the bonnet just to see if it works or if im wasting my time...which i probably am!!

klemster...INXX struts are rubbish, they dont lift the bonnet up as far as the bonnet stay does and there are tiny pins to keep the struts in place...which fall out which makes the strut fall off!

Tomasso...brava and bravos engine bays are identical meaning INXX struts fit both.

Re: boot lifting struts

Strange most other peeps who have those INXX ones seem to have no issues with them, am tempted to fit a set myself, but cant justify the cost at the mo.

I meant trunk lifters - if you want to adapt them to lift the bonnet - brava ones are too long to fit in front.
