has anyone attempted to, or know if its possible to diy wrap the bonnet with some sort of vinyl? im tempted to attempt it as a cheaper way of smoothing the bonnet and removing the stone chips vs a pro respray. in theory, it should be quite an easy job for a 1st time novice..... with the exception of the back end under the windscreen.... would it be easy, if at all possible for a novice to wrap it whilst keeping it looking good and tear/crease free with the inner curved part if you get what im saying.

cant see it being that easy tbf, have you done anything like this before ?

i tryed to wrap a couple of things in checkered vinyl and it was a complete disaster around the corners and curves ,although i didnt have a heat gun.On the flat even surfaces its prety easy

maybe try wrapping something small first and see how it looks if its good then buy the vinyl for the bonnet

what colour were you thinking btw ?

was thinking matt black.... 1st thought carbon, but then thought it might look tacky. i cant see it being too difficult for the most of the bonnet, its just the inside curve.... guess it depends how flexable and stretchy the wrap is.... could be wrong tho... thats why i thought id ask. all good and well attempting a small thing 1st, but each shape would be different. i know id need a 2nd pair of hands for the 1st part of mounting tho.

could be difficult doing the little raised bit in the middle of the bonnet its hard to explain haha

i agree give it a try on something else first, got a spoiler? could try it on that first

Orrr, buy a bonnet from a scrappy(not to ruin your own), get some filler, fill the hole, sand, prime and spray matt black? Even with a roller would be easier lol

Hi m8 wrapping is an absolute peice of pi** i wrapped a whole car if u can get somewhere dry ie garage but if its just a bonnet if possible take it off and take it in house wipe down make sure u get a hairdryer etc or heatgun to manipulate and mould the viynl but if its matt it would be easier as there is no pattern etc to worry about stretching. i did my ignis and roof on my clio easy m8 just take your time also the type of viynl u buy is crucial dont buy the 10 quid ebay crap i use a company called graffityp m8 great stuff and reasonable prices

Absolutely awesome m8!!

What a result!! You could make some spondoolies from this??

I've just posted a query about a cheap sprayer someone might know - I'm looking to get a Seicento front and rear bumper sprayed in rosso red metallic, however could the bumpers be vinyl wrapped instead of sprayed??

What colours are available??

Cheers

Jon

^^^ this, i had an old scrap 106, it was 93, few dents etc, the exhaust went on it and needed new tax etc but had 2 month mot. i let a friend of mine rattle can the bonnet in glo in the dark yellow and then put it on ebay for £100 spairs repairs etc nobody touched it. i then read about rollering etc, with some very easy n light prep work i then used a 4" foam roller and dulux household paint and rollered the entire car - it looked ****ing brillaint, long story short - it sold for £355 lol rollering can make a nice finish if prep work is there...

lol im proper tempted to roll my car because the paint work on some of it is shocking! The whole drivers side front is in a bad way, the wing isnt a fiat part and the bumper has had a really bad respray at some point but i dont want to regret it if i do end up doing it... Would have to be a matt colour though and smooth everything first :D

visit untouchabletints.co.uk for wrapping, wrapping is not easy as you think, if u stretch matte black even a little, you will see the colour change, u will see a line were u have stretched it and it will look silly, try for your self as other people said on smaller parts and see if u can do it, its not about the colour its not about what company you buy it from its about the thickness and the adhesive of the material, ye u can find some for 10pound u can find for 20pound, these cheap materials will rip of your laqour when removing the wrap after for example a years time and may fade in colour, people think ye its easy, go ahead buy the cheap stuff get ur self a wing or something to practice on and see for your self if it is as easy as everyone says it is, if it was easy noone would take their car to other people to do it for them :)

If your still up for vinyl wrapping,
try and get your hands on some 3M vinyl, probbaly the best stuff around and it will NEVER lift. I work with it most days with the aircraft I work on and its relatively easy to get on and a f**ker to get off! haha goes round curves like a bause aswell..

Like the RAF roundrells, tail numbers and canopy danger markings, but its mostly aero conspiquity on Viking glider wings. (cant find a picture)
