Hi, I've got a metallic blue (599/A) 2007 Grande Punto. The car has loads of stone chips on the bonnet (only 22k) that are down to the primer. I bought the Fiat touch up stick from my local dealer and have touched up the chips using a tooth pick rather that the provided brush ..... really good colour match.

Do I really need to use the lacquer that can with the touch up ? I am worried that it may highlight the touchups.

Cheers.

I would laquer the touchups personally as this seals the paint leading to a better & longer lasting repair.(y)

Okay dokey .... will do, guess I was just hoping someone would say it was no necessary for just chips.

Cheers.

you should of just put enough colour to cover the primer so it wasn't flush with the rest of the paint, then put the lacquer on to make it flush then cut/polish the whole panel lightly.

Thanks Paul.

When I touched up the tiny chips I used a toothpick so just the right amount of paint will almost fill the chip. The problem now is that I've lost about half the chips now as the paint match is so good !!

Do you think it's such a big deal if some of them do not get the lacquer ? Could moisture still get through the paint and primer to cause rust ?

Cheers.

no, the lacquer is for protection against scratches etc and gives the paint shine/depth
