Literally as the title says, the weld on the top hinge of the drivers door has completely sheered off. God only know how it happened. My local mechanic has quoted me £300 for the repair, and he's usually pretty good. Anyone had any experiences of this/ any ideas how to get a cheaper repair done?

It's safe unless I open the door. So I'm resorting to getting in through the passengers side

If it's the door that's busted and not the hinge on the car you can get a cheap door on ebay and swap it yourself. I recently bought a front a rear door for £30

If it's the car then ouch! it may well cost alot to be rectified.
