Someone :nutter: has hit my '97 fiat punto's roof with an axe, leaving a huge gash in it.

Any ideas for repairs?
havent got the money for a new car or any welding gear. max budget of £30. - Trust me, T-Cut donsn't help here:p

All right, just a little update. it's forcast for heavy rain for the next few days, im in north east london btw.

I've hit the roof with a hammer borrowed from next door to try and unpeel the edges. The damage is af far as the roof lining / cloth on the inside.

The gash is now covered in Gaffa tape. i cant bend the metal roof back to how it was though... :(

only insured fire & theft, so i'd get nothing from the insurance, best to leave em out of it(y)

unless the person who's roof it came off took it out before some one can claim against them:idea:

good point :D but an axe head would leave a diffrents entry point on the metal than a roof tile would (y) roof tile is squared an axe has the shaved edge so it creates a cleaner entry point :p

hey all, soz no pics:( need to get a camera first..
The gash is just above rear left window (3 door model)
I was thinking welding a plate under the gash and using some filler over the top, then just stich the roof up?

So i've been looking at welding gear and  - not cheep :(
was going to try kwick fit (Oh how i hate the one i went to for MOT:mad:)
and see if they will weld the plate in.

I'll let you all know how it goes tomorrow(y)

I'm sure I could make a tile cause very simiar damage as an axe if you donate me your cars roof and a tile ;)

All depends on angle the tile hit the roof and velocty as to the damage it causes.

Slate expecially can cause similar damage, but luckily its not that common on roofs.

ok u win (n) as im not donating my car :D u can come have a roof tile though and try your own roof (y)

oh yes sorry, been all sorts of hassle with this:cry:

But its now sorted(y)
It's all been welded back up and wev'er also added a thin roll cage over the roof & down the sides. you can't see this as it fits under the fabric of the roof & side panels(y)

However, i havent had much luck with getting the same paint:(
so i have just sprayed over the weld with primer & left it as that, mainly so the metal isn't exposed(y)
