I had to repaint my grille after an accident and its been a few months now but theres stonechips started to show up all over the face of the grille. Are there any decent laquers/clear coats I can use that are resistant to stonechips or is it something I have to live with?

Cheers

did you use an aerosol can. if so it will be a 1 pac paint system. Which is inferior.

pro's use a 2 pac lacquer. It is much much tougher and is called 2k because before spraying it is mixed with a hardener (there are 2x components to the lacquer) Once mixed it will after a short while begin to harden.

Also worth noting. If the grill is plastic, did you key the surface before spraying and then use a plastic primer?
If not then the paint will not have adhered properly and peel, chip etc.

Thanks for the help.

First off, yep it was an aerosol. It was my first repair job and was quite chuffed with it until now. And I roughened up the surface first as well, did 2 coats primer, 3 coats paint, and about 3 of laquer.

Anyway, do you have the name of a good 2 pac laquer? Do these need to be applied with a spray gun ?

Cheers.

The 2k I use is applied with a spray gun.
You should be chuffed particularly as it is not your work which is at fault. In most applications 1k paint is fine. I find that on bonnets and roofs it tends to lift as a result of tree sap etc. Possibly your grill is exposed to being chipped.

might be worth investigating to see if there are better quality 1k lacquers. You can get a so called 2k on ebay in a spray can. I'm not sure how you would mix it, 2k is mixed similar to a filler. It will not harden as such until a hardener is mixed with it. This is what makes it tougher than 1k which dries in normal conditions, air.

it is possible that if you spray it, a local bodyshop might lacquer it for you.
:)
