Hi all

I've got a '99 Punto (mk2?) - the base model with the SOHC engine. Took it to the garage for a service the other day and was told that they wanted to replace the fuel filter, but this was risky and might cost over £150 to repair damage if it went wrong.

Now this sounded a bit odd, so I didn't get it done. Had a look at the Haynes manual, which says that as the engine is a non returning (or something similar) system the fuel filter shouldn't even be changed at all.

I'm confused as hell. I'm assuming the garage were messing me around, but does anyone know for sure what this could be about?

Cheers in advance

Tom

Apperently they put the fuelfilter in the fuelpump on the mk2 puntos. Most "normal" garage would have a fee to get it changed, not some "if something goes wrong you have to pay".

What reg is it? You're not even sure it's a Mk1 or Mk2? That's worrying.

I know that all Mk1s made after 98 (ie. mine :D) don't need their fuel filter changing, only the earlier made ones. Mk2s might be the same as mine.

Hi

There's nothing wrong with the car (well, not with the fuel pump in any case!) - I took it in for its 36k service and the garage brought up the whole fuel filter issue. Oh, and it's definitely a MK2, V reg. In the end I've just left it (if it ain't broke, etc..) - garage confirmed that filter is fitted to the pump, but maintained that changing it was risky and could cost a lot of cash, which still sounds v suspect to me.

Cheers for your help/advice - much appreciated.

Tom
