Due to a (shortly to be fixed) leaking screenwash tank, I've worn out my wiper blades. A quick nip into Halfords and checking the catalogue showed me that they don't list the B as one of the models that their blades "fit". Now, I'm sure its just a case of measure and go, but anyone have any recommendations about good blades? The ones that I have on (from when I bought it 12 months ago) irritatingly have the "spoiler" on the drivers side blade, but the wrong way round.

Are those spoilers worth getting? Any alternative bright ideas too (e.g. is that "rain away" stuff (or whatever its called) any good / worth putting on?) gratefully received!

Happy New Year - first trip in my B of 2007 tomorrow (though sadly that also means back to work...)

Only Diamonds cut and scratch glass.

Blades 19", and yes to the spolier, this helps keep it down at over 60mph, if you do not use them they come away as high speeds and work for no man.

Dont fit the wiper spoiler as you call it !!!! If you put one on the drivers side it can scratch the windscreen becasue of the shape of the glass. Trust me I ended up with scratches after a few weeks  !!

Yup... Same as that unfortuantely. My driver's side windscreen has been scratched from the bloody wiper spoiler.

Although diamonds are supposededly the only things to damage glass, I'm not sure a car windscreen is just glass. Think its plastic coated for safety (toughened), so its the coating that scratches not the glass.

I do recall years back a complaint made against FIAT for poor quality glass.

They use soft glass (If there is such a thing)

I upgraded mine form a set bought on E-Bay. No probs at all.

Both had the spoilers on, make sure there the plastic ones as they should flex with the wind.

But if you don;t have them your washer \ wipper is usless at high speeds.

I have scratches just where the glass curves on the drivers side making a squarish shape abrasion. This came from my second pair of blades and they are original Fiat ones (and not cheap!). Any idea if you can buff out the scratches or fill them like they do stone chips? My understanding is that the unique shape of the B's windshield means there is a fair amount of variation in the curvature which can mean some of us are lucky to get these scratches.

I frequently see blades on ebay so will try a pair of those. If they are any good I will post brand and model no.

Glass, like steel, can be produced with different additives making it 'harder' or 'softer', just as steel can be. Similarly it can be annealed. I think soda lime glass is the softer glass, less resistant to heat and impact than say borosilicate glass. I've no idea how windscreens are produced though.
