My Barchetta lights were so dull and worn that I considered replacing them as I thought they can't be polished.. but Decided to order this chinese polishing kit for $3.5 , Link
If you consider ordering it I suggest to get the same item but from different seller as it took really long to arrive from that one.

Other expenses:
various grit wet sandpapers 500/800/1500/2500 grit
about 10grams of polishing paste, I just used some G3 I already got although I don't think it's for polishing lights, but that's what I had and it worked ok, although there is probably some better choice out there.

So I started with lights like these :bang:

Tools I used, just a regular drill will work fine, you don't even need the sander to be honest, also Make sure you have spray-bottle of water as you need to keep it soaking wet at all times when sanding, I just took the spray part out of some cleaner bottle and put in some jar of water and sprayed that way, didnt bothered to go to shop to buy an actual spray bottle.

this is after sanding it down first with 500grit with a sander, I took off A LOT of material as mine was just sooo worn.. than hand sanded with 800/1500/2500 and this is the result after sanding. For the other lens I just went straight with 1500/2500 as it wasn't as bad.

and this is the result after I polished it with polishing paste and the chinese buffing pads, I only used the orange flat one as it was the best, the 'fake wool' one was just terrible and that was pretty crap so didn't used that.

It took about 20minutes for the first one as I had no idea what I'm doing and it was really worn, and about 5minutes for the other lens. I'm sure I could now do 2lights in like 10minutes total. Total cost under 5euros and I got almost brand new lights. Came out pretty decent for a 20year old car.

That looks amazing, really does make them clear. What about the black surround did that come out as clear black?

nop, couldn't really do anything much to the black surround.

Still an amazing transformation, you must be more than chuffed, especially for $3.50. Even a secondhand light is so expensive.

Well When I wanted to get new lights I was asked 300eur for a pair of used ones.. :yuck:
Anyway, next goal is to try to polish the whole car and try to refresh the faded colour, will have to stop by some store and pickup some new polishing compound/possibly some new pads.

Well I did it.. I actually just polished the Whole car today with those small pads from ebay+drill!

it was an OK day today and had nothing better to do, went to shop today to buy few grams from few different polishing pastes to try out several brands.
this one was the best
http://radex-auto.com/eng/polpast/1/332/

I tried 2 other 3M products but this one was the best, at least with the kit I got..
Bought 200grams of the said paste and took about 4hours to polish the whole car with those tiny tiny pads, it was total pain in the ass because they were so small but I didn't wanted to wait another month for larger ones to arrive from ebay..So just had a go at it!

The End result came out Damn Awesome, well at least for a 20year old car, it shines almost like a new car now, most of the tiny scratches/some orrange peel effect it had dissapeared as well.

Spent about 6euros on the polishing paste (used about 4.5eur worth actually)
, would have cost me at least 100euros if I were to bring to service for someone to do the same job ( well they probably would have done it better since they didn't had to use a $3.5 polishing kit from ebay :D )

Will post some pictures some other day with the end result, but well impressed!

Car is looking really good. Have you had to polish your rear window yet? Mine is quite poor. I was hoping to get a complete new roof but cant see it happening so I really need to sort the rear window! Steve

mine is really faded as well and can barely see through it. not really sure how would you go about polishing a plastic ''window'' like that?

but I drive the car only when the weather is good with the top off so I don't really care much about the roof/window since I don't use it anyways.

have been looking at new roof as well since mine at almost 20years of age has become pretty bad as well but can't make myself spend 300euros on one..

My roof is also 20yrs old and its generally ok apart from each side of the rear window where it folds. The window is really bad and maybe beyond polishing. Autoglym do a plastic polishing cream and one of the applications is for convertible windows. I havent heard of anyone using this product but I seem to recall someone using a very expensive BMW? product which produced good results. S

I use Renovo soft top kit c £29.50 , see there website. It includes 50ml plastic window polish it makes my soft top and window look excellent

if you got a tyre shine you can make your roof look new again with it as well ;) have done it few times and the result stays for like half a year, you can clean it with just a regular fabric cleaner before doing that which costs 1eur/ £1 a bottle.

£30 for such thing is a rip-off.
as for polishing the window itself just checked some videos/quick google search and seems like you can do it with just a very fine polishing compound, since I got some now I will try it out probably tomorrow and let you know if it works.

ok well I tried today to clean mine with just damp cloth,no luck.. bought some 1eur bottle of car window cleaner ( said works for plastic as well) ,and it more or less removed all the gunk on the window :slayer:
went over with a bit of the car polish and it's now more or less crystal clear, but the window cleaner did 90% of the job.
So if you just got some regular window cleaner in house try that first?

Alright here are the pics of the whole car polished with that small $3.5 chinese polisher, think It came out pretty good specially me doing this for first time?
