General Thinking about buying one

General Thinking about buying one

Come on, we do not have a common car, must admit it's the nicest looking convertable for less than 30K.

Face lift I do like, looks good and still kept away from the Jap agression look, still looks stylish!

If you want a CDA I can do you a deal on one for £150 all inc, including P&P. I havent yet fitted one to my barchetta as I havent had time and we are about to swop the engine anyway ;-)

[email protected] or 087 091 091 16

We can also do a damn fine price on SuperSprint exhausts on these - and that is something that I have on mine and it sounds superb, a real low down burble when warm.

I pick mine up tomorrow (Red) I've wanted one for years but always put off by dealers who couldn't be bothered. As they have now stopped production it was my last chance to get a new one. I want an alarm fitted & remote central locking, any one tell me is the fiat one suitable/any good and if I get an aftermarket one does it invalidate the warranty

Great news... I'm still saving (actually I've less money now than when I started) for a used one.. I heard a rumor that Fiat were stopping making them soon, but it still features on the fiat website

I honestly hope thats not true I was goanna buy mine in October (n)

I rang Fiat and they said production stopped in July. I couldn't order a new car it had to be sourced from those already at dealerships and there was only three to be had in the UK (according to them, that was within the Fiat group. I found a couple of other new ones on the 'net but when I rang they had been sold!). That said and done they are stopping production of the Punto soon so it stands to reason the very low sales of the Barchetta will stop. It's 7:30am and I'm like a kid at Christmas only three more hours to go!

Chat to DTR sports in London (the only UK Barchetta people who have a clue)

Yes Barchetta are the lowest selling cars in the UK, because you can inport one for 10K and it's the same as a UK spec, ok you need the lights altering (Not new ones!!!!!, just click them the other way)
And speedo if your fussy. the rest is the same.

Fiat do not want to sell loads of these cars as they say there is no market for it. WHAT!!! stick them RHD and they would be the best selling car in the UK.

I heard they produced 7 for the UK market this year, 5 for last. but you can get them from Germany. I think they will stop soon, shame but at least it makes the car a cult classic.

Spoke to DTR re an alarm and basically they said "DON'T DO IT!". Anyone know if the remote update on e bay works and is ok with the warranty?

What did they say was the problem??

I have a Clifford fitted £370inc VAT, Thatcham 1. But I had to bypass the Clifford Imoblizer. Then all ok.

That link works for the doors only, if your having a remote alarm fitted then you do not need this.

I have this and it cost £60 brand new from Fiat. 5 seconds to fit, it fits in the passenger side, you replace the one under the coloured panel. You will not miss what I mean, they both look the same, one has the wire.

Thanks for the reply basically they say fitting any alarm cuts in to the wiring loom and causes problems (not specific, should have asked) and you don't need one anyway as no-one will steal it 'cos it's LHD? I am not the happiest bunny in the box right now .... still love the car (when I finally get it) but could cheerfully choke the dealership. The car I have bought and PAID for cannot be released to me as they forgot to register it! Fiat want £240 to fit an alarm but cannot tell me anything about it, does an aftermarket alarm affect the warranty?

Great weather for a barchetta and I'm stuck with a Sporting (which I love, so that remark's a little traitorous)

An aftermarket alarm should not affect the warrenty, just make sure they know what there doing. Like I said mine is a Clifford Cat 1.

OK Sextons who did it, broke 3 panels, left 1 wire disconected, and damaged the centre console, a cost to them of £150+. The thing is, Barchettas are brittle! so look at the car and point out to them it's new and your baby. I had mine fitted when the car was 2yrs old and told Fiat and they had no problem with it. As with any warrenties, if they can prove an electrical fault was due to the alarm then you paid, but you can get the money back if a shop did the work. I had 1 fault and had to get Fiat to chat to the shop to resolve, basically make sure they do not add another imobaliser (I can not spell!!!)
they did on mine and a sensor kept lighting up!. by passed it and all ok.

Any advice etc Pirvate message me anytime. Good look and I hope you get it soon. I feel for you, some one crashed my car and it took them 4 weeks to repair! still not 100% but it will be. Never crash your B if you can, hard to line up!!! takes ages!

ANy way GOOD LUCK. Give us a nod when you have her!.

Hi all,
Personally i'd go ahead and fit an alarm if only for the remote release! A soft-top is easy pickings for a thieving git, maybe not so much for the car as they do draw attention :) but more for the damage they could cause when they try and steal what you might have in the car.
As far as the warranty goes it's gonna be down to either Fiat or the alarm supplier if any thing did go wrong so no problem there. But don't get one thru Fiat cos they'll just get a cheap after market one to a price. Go direct to a specialist. (y)

Thats sounds spot on. On my alarm I have proximity sensors, a bit anoying when parked next to a tree, but I can alarm my B when the hood id down, it gives you 5 seconds to remove your hands from inside the car before the alarm goes off.

Hi Steve,
yeah, when i drop the roof i just set the alarm to bypass the microwave sensor so it just operates on the voltage drop. :)

Hi, got it yesterday !!! miserable weather but dry so top off all day it is brilliant> I thought I was much too mature to fawn and burble on over a car but it is ace! Stop thinking about buying one and do it. It is GREAT.

Oh the remote central locking thing, Fiat say it should have it dealer says no. Long story short they are fitting it free!! and only right too! Off out to wash it now.... if I can stop myself driving off, 200 miles in two days. Did I mention it's great? :) :) :)

Just finished washing her and put her to bed. A photograph in the garage doesn't do her justice. Provided it doesn't rain (I'm not allowing her out in the rain... fortunate enough to have a second car to use) pictures galore tomorrow. Just took the tax disc out of the dealer provided holder (tacky) but the metal one I have doesn't fit the curved screen quite right .... hell I know it's picky but the car is just class.
