Hi guys and girls,

I'm just looking for a bit of advice. I have recently bought a nice little B, most of the exhaust has been replaced. However, it is in dire need of a new back box. My choices are either buying an OE exhaust or the Supersprint exhaust. Unfortunately my insurance do not allow mods, if I were to buy a Supersprint exhaust and fit it, how would they know that it is after market? If they did realise it was an after market exhaust I could say that it came with the car and I assumed it was standard. What do you think? I know it is illegal and could invalidate my insurance etc etc so please don't lecture me!

Thanks,

Ad.

Just sold a Cinquecento with a Supersprint back box. It had Supersprint embossed in the tail pipe, so a bit of a giveaway. Nice bit of kit, though.

Unfortunately the 'didn't realise' bit doesn't wash with police or insurance, it's ultimately your own responsibility to check you are fully covered for what you have.

Unfortunately I don't have that luxury as my current insurer has halved the quotes of every other. I'm only 21 so £1000 is cheap!

This is not meant to be a lecture but treat insurance companies with great suspicion.
I deal with insurance companies in my course of business and you should never allow them an opportunity to wriggle out of paying a claim as they will usually try to find one. If your insurers will not allow modifications then either stick with original parts or go to an insurer who will allow them. That's it.

Yeah I'd be pretty stupid not to declare modifications so I will just purchase the OE exhaust even though its a complete waste of £200.

Noooooooooooo - dont waste £200! :bang:

I have got a supersprint on my Facelift B - replaced the standard exhaust last year.

I am just up the road in Ipswich - happy to pop down the A12 so you can see what your money could get (not this weekend as i will be at Stamford Bridge supporting the mighty Blues - Ipswich Town).

You will not regret it .........

Not worth taking the chance. The side most don't see is that you can be made personally liable for damages if you're not properly covered.

Docorangepeel - you can't get away with any mods, you should declare everything.

Doesn't it depend if it can be classed as an OEM replacement part? It's illegal for them to stop you doing that. For example, my Bilstein B6s were classed as OEM, so that was OK, my Eibachs were not so I needed a certificate.

I'd agree with Dave. If you fitted a standard exhaust that happened to be an original spec but made from stainless steel, i.e. one that would last longer, you'd get away with that. You won't get away with an aftermarket performance part.

Where can I get a stainless OE exhaust? The fiat one will probably last just over a year. For £200 I think its a joke.
