General Window Adjustments

General Window Adjustments

Noone that knows this? Bee have to sleep outside most of next week, so I was hoping to get her watertight before that. :)

I have had my driver's door panel off, but cannot find the adjustment to get the top of the window closer to the hood rubber (to get the window to lean inwards more). The picture links above are 'broken'. Does anyone know where I can find a pic of the adjuster screw? - Thanks

Thank you Professorwho - It will be nice to be able to listen to music on a trip; I had almost 5,000kms of wind noise on a trip around South Africa recently. I'll give it a go!

Thanks all, especially for the excellent tutorial found above. A question. I have reached the stage where the door panel should slide off, but it is hard up against the door frame, and cannot go further forward without bending the front part of the panel. Is this right? I have used some force, but it will not budge.

This is an imperfect situation. I just could not remove the door panel (the escutcheon at the interior handle would not slide with the panel). Because the door has to be closed and locked, there was no room for the panel to slide forwards - the door is closed and there is nowhere for the door trim panel to move forwards! What a ridiculous system!
But I held the door panel away from the door and tried to adjust the in/out screws, only to find there is insufficient adjustment. Even though the nuts are barely hanging on by their fingernails after spacers were added, the window still isn't close enough to the weather rubber. OK, wind noise is preferable to all this nonsense, I'll have to put up with it.

Hello Dave and everybody.
I remember it was not easy to remove the door panel.
First you have to remove the plastic behind the interior door handle, wich is not easy. It moves independent of the door panel. I remember I pulled it out of the door panel and moved it in direction of the front of the car pushing the close button at the door handle. It is very tricky but not impossible.
This may help you: http://www.barchetta-lexikon.de/?action=projekt&daten=006
Good luck

can any one tell me why you have to have the door closed and locked to remove the door card, it just doesn't make sense to me, the door card has nothing to do with the lock or window operation / adjustment

It's because of the door handle surround. The door lock lever has to be in the locked position in order to remove the surround and the door card slides with the surround. "Interesting" bit of design that.

Ive never had a problem removing the door cards.as for window adjustment, there should be little bits of metal inside the roof rubbers you can bend them to make the rubber meet the glass

Funnily enough I was doing this job at the weekend, after fitting a hardtop, to get the windows against the seals as firmly as possible. The doors don't need to be closed whilst removing the inner handle plastic surrounds, just use a screwdriver in the door lock mechanism to push the latch in and lock the door with it open. Then the plastic lock surround can be jiggled free, though it's a right pain to do. Actually when doing the second of my doors I didn't bother removing the handle surround or door card, if you unclip as much of the cards as you can lower down then there's room to get at the window tilt adjustment screws. And to get at the window height adjustment screws, you can unscrew and remove the upper metal door trim without removing the plastic handle surround. You undo the speaker thing and can then unclip the upper edge of the door card without having to remove the handle surround, though access to the 3 screws under the door card which hold the metal panel is tight, but it's do-able. Then lift the rubber strip that sits in the door top and the adjustment screws are beneath. I hope that helps.

Just a quick post to clarify what I said in the last message - the job is do-able without removing the plastic handle surround, but I did remove the single screw that holds the surround in place as that gives the wiggle-room to unclip the door card along its top edge and thereby get at the 3 screws beneath that hold the metal upper door trim in place.
