I was told by VAD after i questioned them about a few things about the conversion, that unfortunately the guy who really knew what he was doing with the hi-boosts had left, this is what Jamie refers to, as there is much more to the hi-boost than the low-boost.

A high-boost should be no more or less reliable than a low boost, but it is UTTER madness running any turbo conversion without an oil cooler, the turbo that is used is air cooled, this is a fact, not water cooled as on most modern turbo applications, and therefore gets very hot and the oil will fry in there after not to long, especially sitting at motorway speeds say on constant boost. Also turning the car off with out letting the oil circulate, something the handbook for all turbo cars recommends, Renault recommended 30secs before every switch off for the 5 GTT, or boosting too quickly after start up makes for a very short turbo life.

Of course the oil gets destroyed quickly in turbo cars to due higher heat and pressure its put under, and therefore needs higher maintenance intervals, as will the spark plugs due to being exposed to boost, expect 3000miles on oil, and 6000miles on plugs, which somewill not have done by sticking to normal service intervals which would have ended in failure somewhere.

There is a little greyness around the SuperChips thing as well, but VAD used to be a SuperChips dealer, they are no longer, which is why some of the earlier turbo's have the SuperChips fuel cut defender rather than VADs own.

I use my Cinq as everyday car as its still a cheap car to run IMHO, and although I did blow a head gasket, how many n/a cinqs/seis do that anyway, that’s more an inherent engine fault than a turbo related one, and I've covered about 12K in the last year in mine including trips to Glasgow, London many times sitting in intense traffic, Manchester etc etc

With a turbo any weakness in the cooling system will be cruelly exposed, and it is therefore imperative that the cooling system is flushed and new antifreeze and decent lime scale free water is used every 2 years minimum.

As is know on these cars the rads are known for loosing efficiency after time so should be watched for effectiveness.
