Hello Everybody!

This is the year for me to start my 850 series 3 project car.

(can't leave it too long!- I've been thinking about it 5 years already!!)

Does anybody have any "must-know" pieces of advice they could give me?- Like "good luck!" or "you should speak to..."??

I thought, in advance of a car, I might start with preparing an engine. In the way that people like to try and fit 1.4 Uno Turbo engines into X19's, is there something more "serviceable" that is used commonly to replace the standard 903cc unit (or it's head)...?
I'm not looking for performance but more indication of avoiding any shortfalls of the standard motor, or is it commonly regarded as decent enough...?

Thanks

Hi Jim

Good luck with the resto, they are lovely little cars! You don't say whether yours is a Coupe, saloon or spide, but I guess the fundamentals are still the same. The Coupe/Sport models had an uprated engine (finned sump, uprated carb etc) which is an easy upgrade depending which model you have. I think the main difficulty with replacing with an engine from another car is that these rear-engined Fiats have engines which turn the opposite way to normal. I believe it's not impossible to modify, and have seen posts giving some details of how, but it's certainly more work.

Hope all goes well with the car and hope to see photos someday!
