... much of which was extremely frustrating.

The car under delivered in so many ways and the build quality and reliability issues mounting up were starting to get to me, and left me concerned for the the cars long term usefulness. I've only had two cars fail to start for me. Both were Fiats. This one twice and my old GP twice. And my now longer commute exacerbating the woeful fuel economy and the stupidly short 9k mile service interval kind of sealed its fate. I can't be bothered to service it every 6 months and the type of commute I now have means an automatic is where I've gone.

It's a great shame as the one area it was great for was the cabin and seat comfort! I also have an extended warranty so could've gone on for another 18 months of trying to get the plethora of gripes fixed. But alas, I've called it a day as it's exhausting.

I'm sure there are trouble free 500Xs out there and if you're pleased with yours, I'm genuinely happy for you.

I've gone for something completely different now. For those who like to play guessing games, I'll give you a chance to have a think and guess. I'll confirm what my purchase is when I've picked it up and waved goodbye to my 500X!

Shame it served you so badly - I only changed mine because I needed a bit more space, but I was still liking the Fiat and it still felt solid, nothing went wrong in the 2 years I had it.
Hard to guess what the replacement is, just hope it isn't a VAG car with the unreliable dry clutch autobox. Did you buy new or used? Did you stick with petrol power? Clues requested!
I went for a nearly new Hyundai because of a much more local dealer, 54 months of warranty left, a free servicing offer to 2021, and 4 year's interest free finance.
The 10,000 mile service intervals don't bother me as I don't cover that in a year, and always get the oil and filter changed annually anyway.

They sorted out the DSG problems ages ago, although this is not what I have got. I went diesel and nearly new. And very different to the 500X, but also similar...

It's like a cryptic crossword.

It's like a cryptic crossword.

Skoda Yeti?

Diesel would seem a good choice for your mileage, and there are good deals around now due to its "demonisation". Peugeot 3008?

So far we've got the following guesses:

Anything by VAG which could range from a Mii to a 911.
A Yeti (also VAG)
3008

Keep 'em coming. I'll confirm or deny when they can't give the 500X back!

Did you mean in your second post that you haven't gone for a DSG gearbox, or haven't gone for a VAG product? I'd assumed the latter, which as you have pointed out would eliminate a great swathe of cars!

Dacia don't do an autobox. We can also eliminate Suzuki as they have discontinued diesels. I think Garee also reported past problems with Fords, so we can scrub them too. And he's obviously disenchanted with FCA cars - the field narrows to a few dozen manufacturers!
Clues, we need clues!

Whats that mitsubishi called..

You know.. that diesel one.. the L200.

THE FULLBACK.. and badged as a FIAT. ;)

Im intrigued.. but equally as disappointed you got such a lemon in the X.

My two 'new' FIATs have been fine.. but

It is just so frustrating how these dumb issues ( and woeful dealers..)

Ruin the whole experience.

I've gone for an automatic. May be a dual clutch, may not be. I don't actually know what type of box it has!

Another couple of clues. It's quicker than the 500X. The specific model is currently discontinued although I got a very late example.

Looking like I can collect on Wednesday, so will reveal all then.

Mazda 3? Only guessing as it was something I considered before buying the X, and also think there is a new one out this year.

So... the car I have replaced the 500X with is...!

MINI Cooper SD! :slayer:

The X is now happily living with a MINI dealer until it becomes someone else's problem.

Best of luck! I envy you, often wish I still had my '11 Countryman All4. We had 3 minis, and not an ounce of bother. I doubt you will ever look back.

Classy! Spookily I was talking to my neighbour today, and his wife is getting a year old Cooper petrol 5-door next week. I'm sure you will enjoy yours.
