Does anyone know whether the Stoplock Pro steering wheel Immobiliser will fit the 500x steering wheel please?

Hi
Didn't think people used these any more as most wont fit a steering wheel with air bags and steering controls
These are a waste of money and would not bother if I were you
There are others on the market that clamp the brake pedal, but again if some wants to pinch your car they will and the damaged caused cutting these off can be horrendous

Looking for additional security as the keyless entry system seems vulnerable.

Hi. Appreciate your concern but I recommend you simply enjoy the car and the keyless facility without undue worry. All forums, and the media in general, will tend to highlight any and all concerns with all aspects of motoring and it is easy to be spooked. Insurance companies will soon take it up with manufacturers if there were a real disproportionate concern with security.

You can turn off the keyless entry feature if you wish, which should defeat the signal boosting theft devices. Means you have to use the keyfob buttons to lock and unlock, but still more convenient than wrestling a heavy monstrocity on and off the steering wheel.

And the one day you forget to put it on is the day the thief has a go.

I thought I would revive this thread as not only am I an owner of a keyless entry 500x but I know something about thefts of keyless entry cars. This method of theft is rife! Cars are more often range rovers, Audi’s and Beemers that are stolen but lots of other cars are stolen like this too so for someone to dismiss this is not a problem couldn’t be more wrong.

Yes, you can disable it but the point is, it’s there for convenience why would you want to disable it?

I want to get a steering lock. Can anyone recommend one that will fit the chunky steering wheel. The ones I have for my little 500s won’t even fit on the sport flat bottomed wheel.

It is a deterrent to have one of these fitted, not only will it slow down any thief but will put them off too.

If you want convenience, why would you stick a whacking great lump of metal over the steering wheel? With a physical key and everything, is that really easier than pushing a button on your fob?

The remote bridging signal hack is only of use/value when the key is parked and stationary. e.g. in your house hallway etc. When the key is with your personally then if they want your car they will just mug you for the key.

So the simple solution is to shield your key in the house or take the battery out. The latter is not really practical as you will eventually end up breaking the key fob casing or making the snug fitting of the sides so loose it just all falls apart.

Alternatively a secret kill switch, professional immobiliser, etc. can be installed. These will not stop keyless entry into the vehicle but will hopefully stop the starting of the engine.

A neat trick that one manufacturer now uses for the signal bridging hack is the fitting of a motion sensor into the fob that turns the fob reception/response function off after a period of inactivity.

As for convenience then yes Keyless entry is good for locking and unlocking. To have another item (kill switch, steering wheel or pedal locks etc.) is going to be less convenient but for those who want extra added security then a compromise has to be made and that is their choice and we shouldn't criticise their choice. Putting your key in an RF shield every night when you get home is not exactly convenience either but is manageable for most.

Cos it’s built into the car, so why would I want to disable it. I just want to know if a steering lock that will fit the steering wheel.

Just get a couple of Faraday pouches. I got a bundle deal for 7 quid on Amazon. One for the normal key, one for the spare. This prevents theft at home during the night which is the most likely scenario. If someone's going to mug you for your key, they'll do this regardless of the keyless entry.

I’ve already got two but sometimes forget to put them in at night.

We use a faraday bag for the keyless keys when we are not driving. The signal can't be read when they are in them.

Items to note:

1) From reading many user reviews some pouches initially work fine but later deteriorate. This is being blamed on the fold over flap stressing the screening material during usage thus letter RF in/out. So suggest periodic testing.

2) A pouch over the fob with other keys dangling outside is probably not going to work but range of connectivity may be reduced.

3) I did an experiment with a small metal tin with a fold over lid. I put my fob and attached keys in there, shut the lid and then tested. No effect whatsoever. I could open the car etc. There is a very simple explanation for this. ANY gap is an issue. RFI shielding is a complicated art. So whatever your solution you should periodically validate it's RFI integrity.
