Hi. I had a test drive as I'm considering the 500x for my new car. I plugged my iphone into the car as I wanted to see how the connection and the user interface worked. The album I was previously listening to started to play (good) and I was able to change the song (good). However the salesman told me that it was not possible to select a new album, or playlist using the interface. In order to do that I would have to actually use the phone.

Is this correct? In my current car I can do everything from the car without touching the phone.

Thanks in advance.

Nope, not true.
If you connect your iPhone using a cable it will work in iPod mode, allowing you to select the playlists using the interactive screen.

I think he is getting confused with when it is connected via Bluetooth, you can't this way.

Thanks. We did try to get it to change the album but using the controls on the steering wheel and the touchscreen we could only get the tracks to change. So he concluded that it wasn't possible. I did query that as it is encouraging people to pick up their phones!

Yeah, that's just through Bluetooth.

Once connected ed using a cable you will have full access to playlists, albeit still through the touch screen but it does mean your not touching your phone.

You also get album art using a cable, something that Bluetooth does not support.

Picked up the new car today and when I connect the phone using the USB cable it doesn't seem to recognise it as a media device and I can't select USB on the touchscreen

Use Bluetooth

But you can only control it through the phone if you do that. You can't change the album and stuff handsfree which is obviously not safe.

I want to be able to connect it via the USB.

It should recognise it after a second or two. Either USB or Bluetooth have the same outcome control wise, you can still access music via either means but as I mentioned earlier, the USB connection shows the addition of albums art on the display.
If it is not connecting, check the cable works for data, reboot the phone then give that a go.
