I'm used to all our other Fiats we have / or have had that read 8% to 10% high but the 500X is 100% accurate. I've checked it against the vehicles Sat Nav, a Garmin Sat Nav and a Garmin GPS only device.
I've some technical thoughts about/for 500Xs with inbuilt Connect Sat Nav:
1) that is that the speedo is self calibrating to the GPS speed. If this is true then over time, as tyres wear down, the speedometer will still be 100% accurate.
2) the speedometer feed is taken from one or more ABS sensors (this gives finer pulse resolution compared to a gearbox sensor) possibly using a gearbox final drive sensor for backup
3) because of ABS/Gearbox sensors are the primary feed? then traveling in absence of a GPS signal will not be an issue.
4) cars without Connect Sat Nav will probably be probably the traditional 5% to 10% high reading
Why the WARNING. Because unlike what we may have been traditionally used to the exact accuracy of the speedo now removes any latitude you may have thought you had .
