General 500xl??

General 500xl??

I think my problem is the roof line of the XL, maybe if the pillers were the body colour then the strange rear roof line wouldn't be as obvious.

It reminds of that mini that has its hat on backwards...the coupe possibly and is also a feature of the countryman which fiat is not copying at all with L and XL. Shame they chose to copy something that is itself a moose.

I think they've said "you know what our 500 is popular, a bit like the mini lets copy the whole mini brand type idea"

I'm not sure if the 500L is supposed to be more like the clubman and the coming 500X is supposed to take on the countryman

I feel the main issue is that the 500 is small and cute and a nice little city run around for people who want a small car. by all accounts the 500L is quite a lot larger and looses its appeal with no middle ground. The 500XL looking at the pictures above seems to have a boot full of badly stored seats making it less useful than the 500L the question fiat haven't asked them self is how many people really need 7 seats?

There are a lot more 5 seater people carriers about, maybe they should have concentrated on the launch and success of the 500L before expanding the range
apparently the platform for the 500L and XL is derived from the punto grande, vauxhall corsa/adam platform so shares more in common with a punto than a 500.
because of this it confuses its place in the line up, for example ford have the focus - focus Cmax and Grande Cmax all follow the focus line and looks

the 500L - XL proclaim to be a 500 but use punto under pinnings and take the place of the Croma and multipla as the mid sized estate car come people carrier.
other brands are much more consistent in their range of models and how each new model fits in

I like the 500, 500C & 500L. The platform under the 500L is reported to be either from the Grande Punto or the first car from the Fiat-Chrysler Compact Wide platform. Either way it actually looks alright, much better in the metal than in photos though even in photos it's grown on me.

The forthcoming 500X looks decent too. Much more like the regular 500 in appearance but shares underpinnings with the 500L.

The 500XL or 500X+ as it might be called, looks awful. Like an oldschool estate where they just appeared to tack an extra bit of metal on the back end with no thought. Ofcourse it might be thoroughly decent inside, but I hope to god they revise the styling a bit before they launch it. I'm hoping it's just a test mule for something else & they're really not thinking of launching that. Just no.

This is how it will look I'm afraid.

Whilst I like wacky and interesting cars I do find the rear of this looks a bit too much like my old hamster's bum! Not good on a hamster and even worse on a car. And yes, it might look better in the flesh, but I doubt it.

BUT: if it is a handy seven seater and does what it says on the tin then a lot of people will be indifferent to its looks. But he 500L can be pricy, and this will cost more.... mmmmm:confused:

So the concept gets stretched even further with the 500 xl..like a bigger big 500 with seven seats...but still available with tiny engines. Motorway hills 7 up in the 80 odd1.3 diesel must be comedy.

Tiny engine lots of seats is nothing new for fiat

The bhp/ton figures for the 600 multipla is about 43bhp per ton that said back in 1968 that was pretty comparible to other cars of the time.

Things have moved on quite a bit since then for instance cars do need to be able to do more than 60mph these days..... Which the 600 multipla couldn't do

It won't look any different to 99% of people. Just like the Cashcow +2 looks just like the Cashcow. You have to be an aficionado to spot the difference. I think I prefer the look of the 7 seat version

Tbf its better to compare this to the mk2 multipla. Base engine for that was also 103bhp albeit from 1.6 litres, compared to a 500 L not XL was 40kg more..ok fair enough. However you can bet the XL will eradicate the weight advantage. We are comparing top spec petrol 500 to base multi, if we go top spec diesel then we have 105bhp 1.6 plays 120bhp 1.9 and the weight advantage of the 500L? 2kg before we take into account the extra seats of the XL so more weight and less power than its immediate predecessor..sweet.

Indeed the Multipla was a much more versatile car

it could seat 6 and still had a bigger boot than the 500L (430 in the multipla 400 in the 500L if you move the back seat right forward) like most 7 seaters the boot in the 500XL will be almost non exsistent with the rear mosts seats in use

in essence its not a replacement for the multipla but for the croma and even that had better engine choices

500L much smarter looking than your 500 ;)

500l, you obviously like the car that you've ordered which is great for you, but you have to understand that it's hardly jawdropping and at best is not really a looker, stop taking it personally and you'll be far happier. People are allowed their opinions and you need to accept that. If you think your 500l is better looking than my 500 then good luck to you, millions would disagree however....

Don't look sad, look quite happy? :nerner::ROFLMAO::woot:

Pretty sure there are forum rules against taking threads off topic, personal insults and belittling products for which you have no experience of

Post something useful, like the photos of 500XL that I posted. That is more constructive in a thread about the 500XL.
