I have a fiat 500 with the remote key but no standard key. If I get a standard key I understand the blade will need to be cut, will multi scan allow me to programme a standard key. You can get the new aftermarket key with no electronics for less than a tenner on the glorious Ebay. Could I then get a second hand key and reprogram the electronics? Advice welcome as i have many ideas in the pot but no real direction to follow. Appreciate I could just go to the dealership and get on but where’s the fun in that. My understanding from looking at threads is they are about 70 quid. The threads I’ve read all have the standard key and want to replace or replicate the posh one. Thank you

I don't think it will be that simple; as far as I know and unless something has changed recently, multiecuscan can't reprogram keys to the immobiliser.

A new non-remote key will need to be programmed to the car; the official procedure requires the electronic key code (these aren't supplied to the end user in the UK and can only be got through the franchised dealer network), can only be carried out by a franchised dealer and will likely cost in the region of £125-£175 (including obtaining that code). You'll likely also need to produce the V5C as proof of ownership.

There are various companies offering aftermarket solutions, all of which will need access to the car and may use unofficial hacks to get the aftermarket key to work with the immobiliser; these are the solutions that cost about £70. Be careful if you go this route as you could have problems down the line if you lose electrical power to the car; there's a recent thread here about someone who lost aftermarket key functionality after a battery swap and may now need a new ECU and new OEM keys; that's going to be a four figure bill.

Getting a key blank cut that will open the doors is cheap and easy. Though it won't start the car, it is worthwhile insurance against locking your only working key inside the car.

It would be worth speaking to Timpsons as it's a relatively simple key. They couldn't help with my lost spare key for my 500X though. It's keyless entry and start. A new key had to be ordered via the dealer from Italy at £260 + VAT, then the car and both keys reprogrammed by the dealer at £50. It then transpired that the emergency mechanical key was not included in the spare they ordered, and wanted to charge me another £100 for that! I argued that it was their parts department at fault for not ordering the complete assembly and advising me of the full cost. They relented and got the mechanical part for free.

I'll be envious if you get a spare key for less than £150!

We supply and programme ignition keys for the 500, £55 total.
A remote key is £150 total.
We need the car for 10 mins.

No need for the code. I can get this from the car.
