Hi,
There seems to be a clunking noise from the front passenger side of the car (64' 500c 17k miles) when going over speed bumps and bumpy roads.

From a bit of research it sounds like it is either the lower control arm? Or bump stop in the suspension leg? Meyle HD seem to be good, but expensive.

What make of control arm would you suggest buying to replace the standard part? As this seems to be a common problem with the 500.

Thanks.

You might want to look at the anti roll bar droplinks first.

There are notorious on nearly all cars for causing clonking and rattling over rough roads and bumps and should be your first point of call.

When they go, they can sound pretty awful, like somethings about to fail badly or drop off completely!

They can be difficult to check/spot as the weight of the wheel pulls out all the slack if you jack the car up.
You really need to crawl under with the cars wheels on the ground and straight ahead, grab them tight and rattle them about, if they are slack you should feel it.

They are fairly cheap, but it's best to find a decent quality one rather than unbranded cheapo ones.

Fitting isn't too hard once you know how, there are plenty of guides about the internet showing you how.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have changed drop links before on a previous car (500c is daughters car) so i will check them first.

There also seems to be some minor road feedback through the steering wheel and when turning the steering seems to become heavier? The car is a 1.2s, so maybe the rough ride is due to it being a s model?

Our control arms made a terrible rubber squishy noise rather than clunking replace both together unlike I did and had to pull all apart again I used Lemforder(about the most expensive ) as we're keeping the car some time ( they also come with a new pinch bolt which can be really hard to remove)
I've also replaced all the front suspension just need to do the top mounts that I stupidly did not replace.
