Hello,
I have a Fiat 500. It’s due for its for Mot and a full service thisFriday. However, this morning the passenger seat belt stopped working – it’sjammed. It’s been fiddly for a few month but we have managed to get it workingeach time. However, i am concerned that it may now fail its Mot because ofthis.
Any ideas on how to get this working smoothly again.
I think it might be the mechanism/retractor....
Unfortunately warranty expired last October...

You can pick up a seatbelt for around £100-£130. Funnily enough I have just sold one for £90. They are easy to fit. You have to remove the rear seats and the side panel to get access to it. It’s held on with one bolt. Disconnect the battery earth terminal first. Remove the electrical connection and turn the screw on the bottom where it joins the pre tensioners and just lifts away. You can actually repair them and put a resistor in-line of the electrical connection. This makes it into a standard inertia reel belt though but the resistor fools the ECU into thinking it’s connected.

I would recommend getting a secondhand good one though. Just read the listing and make sure you’re not buying a repaired one.
