Hi all,

Newbie to the forum here :)

Picked up a used 500C this weekend for my wife and discovered an issue with the Climate Control. Only blows hot air regardless of temp setting and vents no air through the vents above the Head Unit. In addition, when turning it all the way down to Low, there's a noise from behind the vents like a ventilation flap slapping closed. It does the same on turning the CC off....

Any possible ideas on the issue most welcomed....

Hello and welcome.

Sorry to hear you've got a problem.

Sadly failure of the climate control actuating flap mechanism is not uncommon. Fixing it involves quite a bit of dismantling.

Read this thread.

Flag the issue immediately with the supplying dealer, at worst it's the blend door issue, and is often the reason for selling a car given the huge job to repair.

If you bought it from a dealer, and it is this issue, then personally I'd try to return the car and walk away.

You may just have discovered the reason why the previous owner got rid of it.

If the blend door has failed its a dash out job to fix. To start this the doors have have to come off and the entire heater box has to be replaced, the box is over £700! Mine has a problem with the recirculation flap, the motor for that has failed, again its a dash out job to fit a £20 part. It ain't getting fixed......

Did I read somewhere that the heater box was improved on later models at some point?

You can use MultiEcuScan to look if the climate control system contains any stored errors and clear them. You might even try the "flap actuators learning" function to "recalibrate" the end stop positions of the flaps.

However, since you picked up the car very recently, I would start by contacting the seller.

Many thanks all for your contributions. I bought the car privately so going back to the dealer isn't an option.

I've had another look and can get it to blow cold air once the Climate is turned on regardless of temp. If I turn the fan speed up to 2 clicks short of full power, I hear a flap either closing or opening from behind the head unit and then it blows warm air.

I've yet to get underneath to see any of the actuators moving.

Despite this issue and a failed high level brake light, the wife is loving the car!

Hi I know this post is very old but did you ever findou what the issue was?
As mines acting very similar thanks

What year 500 do you have?
My A/C was only blowing cold but got to the bottom of it (one of the flap motors) thankfully but you really need multiecuscan fiat software to get to the bottom of it!
It may not be the worst case scenario so fret not!
