Hello,

I bought a used Body Computer for my Fiat 500 and I was told that I need to reset it. What tool do I need to use? Can anyone help?

Best regards

Sorry, but I can't find anything constructive from a quick google search.

I don't know if the licensed version of MultiECUScan can do this, but if it can't, then I suspect you will struggle.

If I were trying to do this, I'd start by asking the question on the MultiECUScan forum (this surely can't be the first time this question has been asked), and if that didn't get a response, asking a franchised dealer if this can be done using Examiner.

Thanks for the hint, I will do that!

Multiecuscan can do coding of the car, right? So I can e.g. say it has Xenon or not etc?

Thank you!

Do you happen to have Fiat 500 Wiring diagram for Xenon?

Best regards

No MultiECUScan won't do this

The main security feature of your car is the coded key system which is not just coded in the car's engine ECU but also in the body computer if either of the codes don't match the key the car won't start.

Multi scan is a consumer level tool which allows a lot but by no means as much as examiner, and again examiner is a professional level tool but does not allow full function to wipe codes from ecus so realistically you need either a virginised body computer (brand new never coded) or you need to obtain a full set of electronics so body engine ecus matching keys and replacement locks from a donor car.

Otherwise the body computer you have is worthless.

As Andy said it contains all the key data so not just a case of resetting it.
They aren't designed to be reset the only way that i'm aware of to reset it would be to physically open the computer and write a file from an unused unit into the eprom which holds all the data for the keys. But obviously youd have to get hold of this file first.
Alternatively assuming the spare unit you have bought is the same part number and dependent on the reason you need to replace it. You can clone your existing unit by having the eprom in your unit read and the file written into the new unit. Or by physically removing the eprom from yours and fitting it to the replacement.

This is what the inside of the computer looks like and shows the 93c86 eprom that holds all the information that makes it specific to each car. There are several variations on the hardware depending on year and specification of the car. But the eprom is roughly in the same area.

The body computer is not the same as the old one because the new one supports Xenon, the old one (according to eper) not.. I don't have a virginized file of that body computer.. :/

I will try to get the file from someone, I think nobody got the file for number: 51928686? :p

If I have a virginised one / buy a new never coded one, what do I need to do that it works with my old keys etc, how to do the initial startup? With Multiecuscan or with what tool?

Best regards

The computer must be the same part number its not just software differences the hardware is different as well.

To fit a new never programmed computer. Install it in the car and program the original keys back in.

Probably better to ask this question on the MES forum.

Please do let us know if you find a way to get this working.

Hang on! minirib is answering his questions!!

The idea is someone asks another answers who has the knowledge, don't just send them off somewhere else because you can't find an instant answer in a 30 second Google, especially as in this case MES won't help and neither will the website.
