TomTom 2 software upgrade

Plugged my Blue&Me TomTom into the PC last night and was advised of a new update. It didn't say just what the update was but I downloaded it anyway. It appears to be a revamp of the software (V11.803) and my device now has voice control of many features I'll swear it didn't have before. I don't yet know if it'll improve the unit's understanding when I'm trying to enter an address by voice however....

Lots of changes to the settings menus too. It appears to render my downloaded manual obsolete but I haven't been able to find a new version covering these changes anywhere.

Is anyone familiar with the update and/or had any problems with their unit since upgrading?

I updated mine but since the upgrade the touch screen doesn't work. The only way I can operate it now is through blue&me and the steering wheel controls. I have emailed TomTom support but no reply as yet 😥

I've had no trouble with the touch screen. In fact everything appears to work, it's just different.

Have you done a reset on your device? It involves holding down the power button for about 20 seconds until you hear a drum sound then release it and the unit reboots. It's solved problems for me on a couple of occasions.

I'd hate to have to deal with TomTom's customer support again. I had a problem downloading a purchased voice for my device after paying for it and had to send a series of emails to customer service. The fix itself was easy but getting the Indian operator at the other end to understand the problem - that was difficult. Keep at them and spell out your difficulties in words of one syllable (or less).
Thanks JimL thanked for this post

I've done the reset you described as it's solved previous issues. I've also gone to the next stage where you keep holding the power button down past the drum sound until you get a black screen with white writing. You then press the power button three times in quick succession, wait, and a gear wheel shows. You then plug the satnav into the pc, that has my tomtom running, and it supposedly resets to factory condition. However, it reset but is still acting the same. I have avoided phoning them up to now as I am aware of the language problem. I have emailed them and will wait for the reply. They have sorted problems through email in the past so here's hoping!!! I'll keep this thread posted.

Re: TomTom 2 software upgrade

I've just had an email from TomTom saying that they think it maybe a hardware fault. They have arranged to repair it under warranty and have sent me a prepaid label to return it. I am very impressed 😃

Received the sat nav back today. They've replaced it with a new one. It's working ok apart from the live services. I phoned customer services and was on the phone for twenty minutes before telling me I'd chosen the wrong option. Apparently the blue@me is classed as an in-car system and not a portable. I phoned again and the next guy said that they'd exchanged it but not set the SIM card up. I've now got to wait for them to register the SIM. Happy days!! 😚

Which model is that? Mine says TomTom GO (4CS03) on the divice itself and is identified as a Blue&Me TomTom 2 when I log into the MyDrive website. No mention of a SIM card so presumably not a 'Live' device.

Mine says TomTom GO 4CS01. As far as I can gather yours is the Australian version which doesn't have the 'Live' features. I didn't realise that there was more than one model and that the European one was different, sorry. I have, However, just received an email from TomTom to say that the sim is now registered and and pleased to say that it is now all working as it should be.

Pleased to hear that. In my own experience TomTom customer service can be slow to respond and take a few emails to finally understand the problem, but they do get there in the end.

I'm not surprised that the local Blue&Me unit is a different model, it's what I suspected. I think it's an old, now obsolete, model. It's also about twice the price (or more) of an equivalent standard TomTom. Having said that I'm very happy with the performance of mine, especially since the software upgrade. I don't miss the 'Live' features - I don't really need them.

I've been researching a unit to put in the partner's 500 Pop. Obviously the car doesn't have the dashboard socket and we've decided it doesn't have to be a Blue&Me unit as long as it has similar performance in other areas (and as long as it has the Cantonese language! Not a given...) but identifying which model will fill the bill is not easy, there doesn't appear to be a direct equivalent. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be happy to hear.

Re: TomTom 2 software upgrade

I'd love to buy the wife a TomTom2 blue and me satnav because clearly the benefit of having the inbuilt dash port is good for connectivity. Also I understand you can operate it from the steering wheel controls etc? Anyway, that aside, TomTom have some far superior models that cost less and these include 'live services' and free map upgrades for life as standard. I'm soon to be buying myself a TomTom GO 6000 which can be had for 245 at the moment. I currently have a Go Live 820 which is a good bit of kit, but sadly map updates and live services are not free. The 820 will be going to the wife!

I just wish the motor manufacturers would stay ahead of the game and cut new deals with satnav providers to offer units which keep up with newer technology. If I could buy something like the GO 6000 which had an adapter to plug perfectly into the Fiat's satnav dash port, then I would, even if it didn't offer the onboard blue and me options. I guess she'll just have to make do and have that untidy looking cable.

Re: TomTom 2 software upgrade

@frupi I am also looking at the TomTom GO 6000, our original GO (the very first one) is getting a bit old and the Samsung Note3 is useless for GPS on the go.

You can use the fiat 500 satnav adaptor for TT 2 to hold the 6000 and plug it into the dash port for power. Someone on this forum showed how to make the adaptor better by removing a part and fitting a magnet to it.

I haven't checked but I think the 6" screen will just about centre and not touch the dash on the right.

BTW: the 6000 has been out for over a year, some reviews on Amazon show it not so good light and recommend Garmin Nuvi range 3598 (5") one with an external aerial. Regardless the 6000 is a great buy at 245 with lifetime maps and not so fast / ad-hoc traffic updates to re-route. For UK driving supplement the start of a trip by using a mobile phone with google maps to see if any traffic jams in Red.

September sees launch of new technology, you could wait perhaps.

Re: TomTom 2 software upgrade

Aaah, I didn't realise that the older satnav units use 2G and not 3G. More than happy to wait for something a bit quicker then. Not really interested in other makes of satnav, I get on really well with the TomTom units, so happy to stick with them.

I also didn't realise that the service was 2G, it should not matter much as traffic data TomTom will receive will be limited (prob coordinates, road name, length of obstruction), however if not in a rush its worth hanging on.

Let me know if you find a better price on the cradle - when you start looking that is.
