So as I am deciding which engine to get I would be interested to see what MPG figures your 500 returns.

Lets start off with what model you drive and MPG casual driving, and on longer/motorway trips.

With a good mixture of town driving and longer runs my 1.2 averaged low 40s over 4 years, and my Abarth is in the high 30s... Driven for fun with half an eye on economy on runs....

Hope that helps.

With a high proportion of commuter use (10 miles of urban heavy traffic each day) plus the odd longer run our 1.2 Lounge is averaging 39-40 mpg. On longer runs, high 40's are easily achievable.

Rural driving with a bit of town driving thrown in gets us 48mpg from a 1.2 lounge. That is brim to brim calculation .

Some very general questions above, makes me think you are unsure of what you want !! There is plenty of data out there to decide what engine you want, or rather what engine you are suited to.

The MPG question depends on how an individual drives.

Why don't you tell us your car /engine style (fast driver, powerful engine or Eco driver?) that way you will get a response to focus down on your choice.

Good luck with your final choice.

If I drive my TA really really carefully I can get almost 50mpg driving locally. On a m-way run I can get 60 mpg
Conversely if I drive hard it's in the high 30's locally and mid 40's on m-way run.
My wife's 1.2 shows 42mpg over the last 3k miles but she does drive quite hard.
I think what must folk forget when comparing with other owners is their local terrain... hilly, lots of junctions etc.

I'm getting 47MPG out of my TA Sport (16" wheels, 195 tyres use a lot more fuel than if you get a base pop on steelies). Engine is still tight and each tank gets notably better. 50% city, 50% country miles with two on board, and probably 50% A/C use.

The cheapest overall ownership will of course be a 1.2 Pop, but then an i10, Kia (etc) would still be a fair bit cheaper than that.

My new TA lounge on standard 15"s is at 700 miles and getting 45mpg. That is with economy in mind and the odd :D moment. Also the auto-climate has never been turned off.

My 1.2 (Fiat built) Ka is at 29,000 miles and cannot get more or any less than 53.3mpg. That car is generally used 20 miles a day on rural A-roads. Don't know if it's the wheels (195/50/15) but it does feel a lot more planted around bends than the 500 but that's another discussion for another day...

My fleshly serviced 1.2 on 16" wheels is currently doing about 56 mpg on the trip computer which will be something like 53-54 in real life. My best tank was 61 mpg but that was on steelies and in the dead if winter. 65 or 70 would be possible on steelies if you drove like jebus in the summer and it was a long journey.

Fleshly serviced 1.2? This looks like a nicely fleshed 1.2...

The mpg you get is more down to how you drive than which engine you choose. None can really be described as a gas guzzler & all will do better than your current car, so I'd suggest you try them all & just buy the one you like best.

I find it easier to find what you want by model quicker on honest John, it's also reasonably accurate, quoted figures for my cupra was within .2 mpg at just under 27mpg

Mine's a 75hp 1.3 Multi-Jet diesel, driven mainly on A roads, not much town or motorway driving. I have a light right foot but do give it a blast sometimes. See my Fuelly stats below
