Hello, I am new here. My mother would like to buy a Fiat 500 Lounge with TwinAir engine. No firm decision about body type yet, only colour - Azzurro Volare. 500C with this colour and ivory roof looks perfect, but I am a bit afraid about keeping it clean. We don`t have as much rain as you have in the UK and very hot summer so far. The car will not be driven daily and will see only around 15k km a year. I am particularly afraid about the roof getting very dirty during winter. I am prepared to clean it quite often, but I want to be sure, that it will keep its original colour. The car will be sitting in a garage when not in use.
So, 500C owners with ivory roofs, I would like to read your personal experiences. It will help me and my mother to decide. Thank you.:)

I use renovo as a fabric cleaner and a suede brush, i then protect it with G Techniq I1

http://gtechniq.com/shop/3s-for-cars/interior-coatings/i1-smart-fabric/

however i use this on a TT roadster not a 500c but it should do the job, the renovo cleaner i use only when the roof gets dirty, i used it once when we got the car and once more prior to application of the I1, if you get the car new then i would just hoover the roof using a brush, then use warm water with car shampoo in it, then just dry with a good quality microfibre cloth (pat dry) leave it for a few hours then apply the I1 then keep the car dry for 24 hours :)

There's a few threads on the FF on this topic and some very frank feedback on the ivory.

Personally I would prefer the black on a A500 and the red on a 'standard' 500. Tech house grey with the red, white ambiance & Gucci wheels looks the business but if you've settled on Volare blue then I can see why you're considering the ivory.

Hi Radoslav

I have exactly the same car with the same paint and roof choice. I received it in November last year and I'm still in love with it! :)

I, too, worried about the ivory roof and whether it would get stained and dirty as it is never garaged. I paid extra for proofing from the dealer (I'm sure many people will say I was ripped off) and it appears to work. Bonfire ash, a winter's worth of grime, and gifts from some spectacularly large seagulls - all have been cleaned off without a trace. The fabric really isn't as delicate as I imagined it would be.

Hope that helps, and hope your mother enjoys the car as much as I do!

Thank you very much for your replies.
loveshandbags: Thank you for pointing out those threads. I saw them before, but there is one new message in one of those. I am new here as a member, but not as a visitor. I know about this forum for two weeks now, but I wanted to read more opinions from owners of these cars. By the way, Tech House Grey with red roof looks good. But my mother prefers brighter colours. Me too.
EllieG, can you please post some pictures of your car? Which interior colour do you have? I would really like to see it.
After searching for info about ivory roof I came across one german Fiat 500 forum. One owner of 500C pointed out a problem, that his roof is getting dirty on the inside, around the rear window if I remember right. And after reading all replies in that thread, he is not the only owner with this problem. EllieG, do you have any problem with dirt on the inside of your roof? Or any lines on the outside, where the roof is folding? After reading the 500C manual I know, that Fiat doesn't recommend to leave it folded for a longer period of time. And how are you cleaning your roof? Sorry for so many questions.:)

Leaving the roof folded back just results in creases, I would just buy what you want rather than worrying about stains, they will come out with a bit of effort. If everything worried about marks then you wouldn't take it anywhere you would just buy a third car like my 206. With the soft tops that I've owned I have never had an issue with the roof, I'd be more concerned with a light covered interior than the roof

I agree. It's nice to look after a car but at the end of the day it is a working tool. You shouldn't get too precious about it.

Buy the one you like, take the best care of it you can, and enjoy it.

Happy days.

Hi Radoslav

I'll try to upload some photos in a bit - never done it before so there may be a short delay...

Re the marks on the interior, I have to say that I haven't noticed anything as yet, but I'll have a look later on. Having been really worried about keeping everything pristine before I picked up the car, and in its first few miles, I've got a lot more relaxed about it. I intend to keep it it for years, and I want to enjoy it.

I took a while to decide between the 500c and a fixed glass lounge, and I'm so glad I chose the convertible. It's amazing how little sun I need to justify putting the roof down (fortunate - considering our summer weather), and she makes people smile just looking at her!

I'll start doing battle with the photos...

Hi Radoslav

I've hit a problem in that I don't have enough posts yet to be able to attach any photos. :( This is number three, so not too far to go!

In lieu of photos, I can add a bit more detail about the car. I went for the black and ivory seats, ivory interior trim, and splashed out on an ivory leather gear knob, and the compatible TomTom satnav that allows you to control your iPod etc. I also opted for the multispoke alloys that (I think) you can only specifiy on the 500c.

I work mainly from home, so don't cover huge mileage, but everything has kept surprisingly clean, and there's still a faint 'new car' smell after around 6,000 miles. As I mentioned before, I had the exterior paintwork and roof protected with Supaguard. I know that some would consider that to be a huge waste of money, but this is my only experience of it, and it appears to be working so far. I use the follow up products and water beads nicely off the paintwork, and the roof is pretty easy to clean with the sponge etc that came with the kit. I'm naturally very lazy, and not into car detailing, so I'm more than satisfied with the finish I get!

Give me a shout if there's anything else you'd like to know - I'm always happy to talk about my lovely car!

Welcome to the forum EllieG. Looking forward to the pictures. Can't remember if the restriction applies to creating a member's thread.

That's no problem. 500 is about picking what best suits. It wouldn't do we all had the same taste. I had a quick look through the members threads and there were very few 500cs. Here's another thread and there's a few examples of different 500c's with different roof colours.

EllieG, can you please post some pictures of your car? Which interior colour do you have? I would really like to see it.
Took these pictures from a well known UK car sales site to 'keep you going' until EllieG gets her photos up...

Many thanks LovesHandbags!
Those photos are pretty much the same as my car other than the wheels and gear knob.

Hi EllieG
We also have a 500c with ivory roof which was treated with Supaguard-and so far no problems with dirt or with removing it, just a quick sponge with water cleans any dirt or bird sh.... off nicely!
The car also lives outside so gets the full 'benefit' of UK summers!!
