Easy fix though, just a lump of metal at the end of the day. Really chuffed the Mrs was ok.

Only needs a few bits, should have it back by next week

Yeah, we insisted, even though the insurer didn't like it, they were pushing to use theirs. It's your legal right to choose repairer apparently:p

Why not order a couple of these:

Really quite handy I think. I got two and the wife knows if something unfortunate happens, call the number on the tag and let Fiat do the rest, recovery, and contact with your insurer. Insurer might not be too chuffed that you have the car taken directly to an authorised Fiat repair centre, but there's nothing they can do, it is your right to have it repaired at a place of your choice.

Brilliant! Our other car is Land Rover and they do this. I assumed (and found it wasnt) the ciao fiat number on the sun visor was the same type thing as my Land Rover assistance, clearly not as your link is(y)

(I will get it but won't need it now, not that that's a bad thing)

Condolences.

Your Mrs is unhurt & the car can be fixed. You have got your priorities right in treating this as a minor nuisance.

Wishing you a speedy, no-hassle repair - and an accident-free future.

I would like to add to JRs post. Relieved that no one was hurt and that Mrs Sixer did not come to any harm.
Fixing cars is the easy bit and should be like new when they're finished.
It wouldn't be long before Mrs Sixer is back in the driving seat.(y)

Insurance renewal = + £

Admittedly you could just shop around for a different company but the one you're on could be the cheapest.

Couldn't put it better myself (y)

Corrected for accuracy

When it comes down to it, there are probably quite a few insurance companies who wouldn't give a rats fat one if your vehicle, whilst under warranty, went to one of their 'approved' accident repair centres. They obviously do this in the first instance, to save themselves money. You will never be sure that the insurance company 'approved' service centre has used genuine parts when fixing up your trashed motor.

I agree, when it comes to renewal, the insurance company you've been with might want to somehow punish you by whacking up your premium because you didn't play their silly little game of doing exactly what they wanted you to do at the time, but in its early years, whilst the vehicle is under warranty, it's worth having it repaired to Fiat's approved standards, not some bullish insurers. I personally think that the service that Fiat are offering, is worth something in the event of an accident.

I perfectly understand, that for younger drivers, insurance premiums are an absolute joke and you will of course want to do everything to keep them down. I'm not sure how this compares to say a 20 year old, but my wife's premium for the year on our 1.2 POP, was just over £200 fully comp, so us sticking the middle finger up to our insurance company and letting Fiat do all the negotiating with our own insurance company in the event of an unfortunate prang, is hardly going to cause us too much problem at renewal time. And of course, how many people these days actually stay with the same insurer year after year? I for one, change mine nearly every year, just as I do with my buildings/contents insurance.

Nice you got it! I love the 16 inch rims. Let me know how they are on Greek roads as I have the 15s and the ride quality is not bad. I had 16s on my previous car, together with harder suspension almost broke my back!
And yes it takes 10 days to get your numberplates because the administration here is lazy! = ) I couldnt bear the wait knowing that my car was there and i couldnt drive it because of inefficiency. I hope the wait for you is bearable = )

Did any of the air bags deploy? Any comments/views/advice on how this "small car" coped in a prang?

Glad you are all safe.

Someone a while back had a fairly big one on an A road IIRC and the car held up well although was of course a writeoff.

Youch! Glad everyone was OK.

Just want to add a note about Fiat First. I had an accident a few weeks back (hit by another driver - not my fault), and first thing I did was call Fiat First. Personally I was far from impressed with their service.

To cut a very long story short (and to spare you the boring details of the to-ing and fro-ing) - they sat on my claim and didn't get anything moving. They seemed reluctant to sort my car out until they had confirmation I wasn't to blame for the accident. Got so fed up I bypassed them and called my insurer instead - who were brilliant, got straight on the case, and had my car in a Fiat approved body shop (of my choice) in and out within the week. I was simply left wondering why on earth I hadn't saved myself all the aggro and done that in the first place.

From my individual experience (hey - they may have been amazing with other claims - who knows), and from my own point of view I personally wouldn't touch them with a barge pole again. It was just one more example of the wobbly 'Fiat service' experience for me.

It's good to hear from someone who's had first hand experience of this system. I guess the best option then in the unfortunate case of a prang, is to use the AA recovery provided by Fiat in the first year of service or whichever recovery provider you use thereafter, have it taken to the Fiat dealer of your choice and then let your own insurer do the rest. Admittedly and as intimated before, they may not be entirely happy about you taking the initiative of taking it to the garage first, but legally, they can't hold that against you. It's a shame you had such a rubbish experience, but all the same, well worth knowing.
