I'm thinking more and more aboot a 500.. I like the Twin-Air doodah.. but honestly for my requirements I think the 1.4 donkey is the boy.

Only it may still be a bit lethargic for my tastes.. :(

Does anyone make an after-market super-charger for the 500?

I knoes that Abarth makes an apparently quite nippy turbo device.. but I don't want an Abarth. The 500 looks better to me...

Nor do I want to get into transplanting a lot of Abarth bits into a 500... just stick a huge compressor in there.. and then cranking up the boost.. :D but leaving most of the rest of it alone.. :)

www.jcrracing.co.uk to a supercharger kit for the 1.4 500 lump but it's not cheap...

I have no idea what power the standard clutch, gearbox and other drivetrain can handle safely but it's something you should look into rather than just bolting on a supercharger and cranking up the boost. Good tyres and a brake disc/pad upgrade would be worthwhile also.

You could just buy an Abarth and then put standard bumpers on it. There might be some faffing involved but everything is doable.

What Maxi says makes sense.

Wouldn't the different exhaust be heavy on the faff?

Well considering the fact that some of the aftermarket superchargers require you to cut out part of the bonnet, I think that faff is well justified.

Putting a supercharger on your 500 and having to cut a hole in the bonnet seems a bit like this below......

For longer bursts of power I can recommend a solid fuel motor strapped to the back... you might need a bigger fin on the back to keep it on the ground...

sorry I could not resist... and its friday

Why dont you just N/A tuning it up? ECU Chips style.
Dont ruin the sound of the 1.4 engine, turbos are just not sexy.

I've never liked the sound of F1 cars! Too high pitched and 'buzzy' for me. The same goes for a lot of Ferraris, they just don't sound pleasant to listen to IMO. But whatever floats your boat. I prefer stuff like this:

Have you heard the new F1 cars downshifting with the blown exhaust system Mel? It's mad!

Just get the 1.3mjd. About the same power as the 1.4 and about the same torque as the abarth.

On the motorway at 87mph on the clock their only ticking over at 3,000 revs.

I got mine nearly 18 months ago now and still love the power, like you the missus didnt like the look of the abarth and I wanted the best power possible. with extras though it did come to over £14k and that was with a grand off.

Something like this is a good price imo. http://www.motorpoint.co.uk/VehicleAdvert/Fiat/500/332016
