Styling Diff colour dash?

Styling Diff colour dash?

I have just ordered another 2 dashboards, I am going to wrap them and stick one on ebay and the other one I have already sold to an Abarth owner.

Personally I like the colour coordinated dash you get, and like the ivory ambience in our Lounge model.

Carbon fibre might suit a more sports themed 500.

Mrs TwinAir loves her whiteboard on the dash. It's ridiculously expensive for what it is, but she finds it useful and fun.

I too like the white ambiance with the pearlescant white that I have on my current Lounge (y). I wouldn't add the CF to it. But I would have been very tempted to add it to my last 500 which was a Metallic Black sport model. With the 'black' interiors of the Abarths and the Sport models (I cann't remember what colour the roof lining was in the 500 ) the CF can lift the inside. I wouldn't be surprised if Fiat offer this an option on the new Twin Air + models given that it is geared for the a slightly new market sector of the 'boy racers' (I'm one at heart myself). If you think of the Mini Cooper and the Mini Cooper S they were quite close in looks but a sizeable difference in price. I can see the Abarth prices climbling and the 500s pricing dropping back. Has anyone noticed the rise in the price of the A500s now compared with what they were when they first came out ?

I do know of someone with an A500, in white with Red leather and they put a Red dash on. Apparently it looked good with the red leather and the white bodywork etc.

EDIT: Mock up below

Chacun à son goût. Personally I think it is extremely naff and very chavvy. It is but one step away from a Burberry check.

Carbon fibre is all well and good on a car made out of carbon fibre, but that is where it should end, in my book.

But that's just my opinion.

I would agree with above. CF is pretty c**p if not designed into a car at design stage, its mods for the sake of mods and do nothing to the asthetics.

The CF dash of the 695 is not designed into the car. It's a replacement for the standard dash. I think the 2 camps are showing their age :). I'm 50 and if someone handed me the CF dash out of a 695 - I'd put into my funk white and if it was a Twin Air+ or a A500 I would have no hesitation.

Yep 2 camps for CF, but what’s age got to do with it ? I’m 48 and still dislike the CF monotonous design. Having said that I had CF in last merc, but that fitted in with the internal design of the car… annnnywaaay MS we agree there are 2 camps here. Oh anymore escapades from Police (y)

I forgot to mention that I'm really a 25 year old at heart :). Hence the 'draw' for the CF. On a different forum (yes - one isn't enough) there has been a bit of discussion on CAIs (I know a lot of you have no interest in it) and the removal of the DRL for a 'cold air feed' for the open cone as per the US thread. Bit of a debate ensued about it being a breach of regs. A suggestion made by one of the members here was for a CF duct to be put at front in place of the 2 absent fog lights. I'd imagine he will be on at some stage to post the pics.

Forgot to mention - no more run ins with the local Gardai. :)

How does that work then? Although at present there is no legal ruling to state you have to have DRLs turned on, the unit also incorporates the Headlight Main Beam and sidelight.

A new daytime running lights law comes into force across Europe from February 2011. Read Halfords' handy guide for all you need to know about the daytime running lights law in the UK, and find out about how fitting daytime running lights could be a great way to upgrade your car.

Thanks for bringing this up - you are correct Tony - there is no legal requirement to have your DRL turned on. BUT if you remove the DRL (that's the side light) then you are removing a light that was put there by the manufacturer as per the new ruling - it is effectively an alteration that would bring attention to yourself at a check-point or possbily on a MOT. It's an alteration that your insurance company may not be happy with. If you think of the US 500 guys who have modded their cars with the CAI on the youtube video - if they drove in poor light with one of their DRLs on in the US, at an initial glance it would give the impression of a motorcyle - this would be a safety issue.

When I have the DRL on during 'the day' it uses a bright halogen bulb but when I put the main lights come on the weak standard side light bulb comes on instead. (I'm looking to upgrade this weak bulb)
'unit also incorporates the Headlight Main Beam and sidelight'
on the DRL setup on my 500 there's no night-time main Beam bulb.

There has been a suggestion from another Forum member that instead of using the duct that was created by the US 'tuners' by removing the DRL - they could cut a hole in the fog light sockets and using a CF ring to 'tidy it up'. I don't want to 'steal his thunder' on this one but I'm hoping he will post a picture of it.:)

 Multispoke, can I ask you to check this by looking into the lower headlight?

Inside the lower light fitting there should be two bulbs visible, the top one is a 5W21W wedge type bulb that is bright when in DRL mode and dim when in sidelight mode. Below it is an H1 Halogen bulb which is the main beam. I'll try to get a picture of mine later to show you what I meam.

Grimwau, you and I both know how the DRL's on the 500 :)

You're right Tony. The halogen blub you're referring to comes on with High Beam - I hadn't realised that - it's never on around the town - stupid me.
I'll have to upgrade the halogen bulb in the main light because there're poor to 'put it lightly'. I heard the DRL light bulbs are tricky to change.

I've posted pics ; sequence of OFF, DRL, Low Beam (Standard lights), High Beam.

Cheers Multispoke, you beat me to it with the pictures, lol. :p But as I have taken them I am just gonna add one just for the hell of it. Ha! Ha!

The DRLs are a little tricky (unless you have skeletal hands like Lloyd, his description not mine) so if you are changing the main beams it is a good idea to do them at the same time. I always jack up the car and remove the wheels to make it easier. (y)

Thanks Tony for doing that for me (y). I thought I was pretty quick but I noticed somebody had managed to slip in before I had a chance to respond ...

Anyway my apologies to RUI for going off topic but the newer thread
https://www.fiatforum.com/500/270402-fiat-500-dash-mod-3m-di-noc.html
seems to have taken over.

So I think it best to leave in the DRL light and not do what are US cousins have done
The main beam light off the Main light is not good enough to compensate for a missing DRL halogen bulb.

Hopefully, Jason will be able to post a picture of those ducts either here on the other thread.
