All,

Since the early 500s will be coming out of warranty, and the fact that I'm getting a bit sick of reading the.same.questions.over.and.over I think it might be time for the 500 section to acquire a common issues thread.

If people think there might be some mileage in this, and are willing to contribute some issues then I'd be happy to stick it together. Obviously mods would need to help make it sticky.

Maxi made a brilliant thing about this, I think it was a downloadable file about all the latest issues. I'm not sure if I still have it but it's a good idea, I was considering just typing up something quick last week but didn't have the time. What would people consider the common questions/issues, out of interest? So far I've thought of;

-DPF issues
-DRLs being constantly on
-Breather pipe problems
-Blue & Me mic issues
-Waiting times
-Servicing costs/prices/intervals
-Indicators self cancelling at the wrong time
-Passenger window one touch operation

If anyone wants to add any more, feel free and I'll try and compile a list. (y)

Stop and start- what the big thread/fix is and isn't about
Radio- Why does it always come on?
Oil issues (brand, standards)
2010 mods

I'd forgotten about maxis guide. Wasn't that more a buying guide though?

Tyres? Imagine 500-land without a tyre thread every second day. Bliss. :D

From the linked faq:

FLASHING MILEAGE

The dash does this to warn fiat Tech's that the accurate clocks in the dash pod and the body computer (that are vital for the accurate timing of the message packets sent over the can network) are not synchronised.

If it is flashing or has been flashing then once you need to go to your dealer and have a proxy alignment procedure carried out on the car with fiat examiner.

Even if it has stopped flashing it still needs doing the car cannot align it's self it does not matter what you do remove battery or turn off and on again the problem will still be there and still needs sorting so don't ignore it.

It will take just a matter of minutes for the Tech to do this after the time it takes for the service desk to finish booking you in.

if it is not done things on the car will stop working properly basically anything that relies on the can network.

It should be done on pdi as the cars have the earth clamp removed in storage at docks.

Utter ********. Mine flashes every now and then and has done for the better part of 2 years. I turn it off and turn it on. Nothing has ever gone wrong. It matters not a bit if its not aligned.

Well, if the mileage continues flashing, then there is a problem. That indicates the CAN network has a problem, not just the fact it is out of alignment. If, as yours does, it goes off after a restart, then theres nothing to worry about, everything is aligned and working properly.

you could have a totally different mileage stored in body computer to that what is displayed on the dash if you drive for long periods with out alinement

The passenger window control! I forgot that in my review thread. What's that all about?!? Why different to the driver's side? And the indicators...!!

they changed my blue&me unit twice for flashing mileage and it still kept doing that until my cell phone got broken and i had to use a cell phone that doesn't have a bluetooth. it didn't happen again until 2 days before. i'm guessing it's definatly relevant but not the only cause.
