I have recently bought a 1997 Fiat Cinquecento which runs fantastically well until suddenly, for no obvious reason, the engine cuts out. Sometimes if I can select a lower gear quickly enough I can persuade it to start up again, but otherwise it just slows to a complete stop. It then can be hard to start, as if the engine has flooded. When this happened on the motorway at 120 kph it was particularly disturbing! My mechanic could find nothing wrong....any ideas?
