General Oh dear ..can I still pop in?

Aww no!

The car that was competing with the 500 for me (I just ordered mine today!) was the Daihatsu Copen, we also drove the 1.4 Fiesta which was nice drive but just not as pretty. I traded my old N reg Fiesta in for my 500, and its been a great little car, my mum had it from new before passing it on to me. Be sad to see it go.

What else do you fancy?

Aww thanks everyone for your kind comments  I am still gutted ...have started to look at some other makes and picked up brochures today, but must admit non of them excite me as much as the 500 so far. Do you really think the diesel would be a better ride?

I am glad you don't mind me still joining in as you are a nice group of people and I will enjoy talking about the lovely 500 (y)

The curb weight of the diesel is significantly higher than the 1.2 or 1.4. It could be the best option smoothness-wise, with all that extra weight to damp things out. My diesel is still a bit choppy over ruts and so on though - I don't think its really avoidable with such a short wheelbase and light weight - unless you'd be happy with something that's sprung like a traditional french car. Perhaps that'd be your best option?

I had a 1.2 Panda as a loan car while my 500 was in the garage, the Panda's ride felt a lot smoother but the difference is in the tyres.

The Panda had 145x80 on 13 inch wheels, which means tall sidewalls and narrow tread so lots of flexibility in the tyres to soften the ride and less road noise.

My 500 has 185x55 on 15 inch wheels..

.. I still love the 500 but I was pretty impressed by the little Panda.

IMO the 'bouncy' ride adds character to the car, not only does it look cute, it bounces as well :D The 1.4 Sport sounds like it would be ideal for you, its really nippy and is a little less bouncy...just a bit firmer (y)
