Im seriously looking to opt out of my company car, wait for it, I sell Lexus and really fancy the little 500 (y) Am looking at the 1.2 Lounge!

The real shock for me was the saleaman telling me the first 10k service would set me back £279 and the 20k a whopping £479 !! Is this correct ??

sound expensive, but yes the 1.2 is the most expensive engine to service

another reason to buy the 1.4 (y)

I think who ever gave you the info is wrong. Fiat have thier own service plans and both yr1+2 (together) for the 1.2 cost £540 and thats Fiats prices. So i cant see how just year 2 can be £479.

This thread has a lot of info about servicing costs

https://www.fiatforum.com/500/177569-1st-year-service.html

Dealer prices vary but i believe the first service on a 1.2 is more expensive than both other models as there is extra tappet adjustment done.

I negotiated my 1st Service free at point of Sale, but was quoted £430 for my 2nd Service. I decided on an Independant Garage with the service done to Fiats schedule with the right bits at £189.

Fiat Dealer Servicing is expensive, lots of reasons have been touted as to why but I still dont understand why it is SO expensive.

Especially as a Dealer stamped Service booklet wont give you that money back at re-sale time.... although it might carry some favour if you have a megga fault just outside ow Warranty?

You could of course give Fiat a wad of your money and pay in advance for your Servicing via a Fiat plan?

Hi Rob, So the 1.4 is cheaper on servicing then, intersting although Im looking for the ultimate in fuel economy so for me as much as I would love the extra poke, the 1.2 will be the one!

Thanks for all the replys here, it looks like I shall be taking it to an independant after all

Steve

should have wangled 5 years or 60k free serviceing like me he he (the economy atm does wonders for deals)(y)

when the time comes shop around - labour rates vary massively, also some dealers oiffer a low mileage service (basically an oil change and inspection for £120)
as has been said it's good idea to preserve full fiat history to preserve goodwill with Fiat(y)

At those prices it looks like we will be going to an independant garage.:(
We enquired on a service plan when we ordered the car but we were told that "at the present time, not one available". Our last car was £250 for 3 years (Toyota)

when ur buying a new car for cash you can afford to be cheeky i got 3 year or 60k free servicing, free paint gaurd, 3 years free tax. and a tank of fuel so its basicly free motoring for 3 year

I paid cash and didn't get any of that so it must just be down to the dealer, not your method of payment.

Yeah cash is the worst way to pay, if your looking for freebies. Dealers don't want cash they want finance. The cash for deals is seriously a outdated way of thinking.

That's why if your haggling on a car always say it's finance even if it is cash then change it once you find a deal you like/ ;)

save a lot more in the long run if you pay cash upright though. finance is for peole who like throwing money away in interest. not for me, thanks. i like to pay the cash, and own the car outright the moment i drive it away from the stealers.

Not everyone has 10 grand sitting doing nothing in their bank accounts though. Even those who do sometimes prefer to keep the money there and still finance a car, either through normal finance or bank loan. In case something comes up they need the money for where credit is not an option. ;)

It's estimated that 95% of all new cars are bought with credit.

Although you are obviously correct with regards the extra accumulated with interest. The Marea was bought with finance. Which added an extra £16 a month onto the amount I would have had to put into a savings account to fully rebuild my savings had I had enough savings to pay for the car outright.

The 126 was bought cash, and will cost nothing extra a month.

Made my last payment this month.... my GPS is now MINE! And still 6 months dealer warranty left (y)

only time ive seen hard evidence of this was the VX 2.2 vectra engines which had faulty oil jets on the timing chain
those with full VX service history got replacement engines when the engines went pop
those who didnt got to empty their wallets!

not always.often you can haggle more when taking finance as the dealer gets commision
even better if its finance that you can pay off early for no penalty

Depends on the interest rate. If you have the cash but can get a zero % loan, or close, then go with the instalments and keep on earning the interest on your capital. And if saving up means you have to keep throwing dead money at an expensive old car until you have the cash, mightn't a loan be a cheaper and more reliable choice?
