General Turbo pack for the 1.4 sport

General Turbo pack for the 1.4 sport

A turbo kit for the 1.4 from Fiat seems most unlikely. Let's look at what would be required -
  • A turbocharger
  • Exhaust manifold and new catalyser
  • New induction system and airbox
  • New inlet manifold pressure sensor
  • Probably new injectors
  • Either new pistons or special thick head gasket
  • A new ECU
  • An intercooler (and where would it go?)
And that does not include all the special new hoses, clips, connectors etc. Plus the cost of fitting it all. To be able to back all this with a decent warranty as well would surely make the whole thing far too costly. Look at the fitted cost for the EsseEsse kit for the Abarth 500, where you get a lot less than my list above.

John

You forgot to emntion that the cam is different, the conrods are not up to it, the crank is different and the block is internally different. And the Abarth 500 has got 2 intercoolers.

Fiat would not risk it.

Well, I didn't exactly forget to mention it (which is a kind way of putting it) - I chose to ignore those aspects because I either didn't know or was unsure about them. But I am sure that you are correct.

I'm sorry I mentioned anything now. I was taken a back by what the saleman told me, but in this crazy world I wouldn't be supprise if Fiat did bring out some form of performance kit. He did say it was a Turbo Pack though. As we have all seen at times people get their info wrong. So for now, like you all I'm gonna assume he got his info mixed up.

I hope he didn't though. BTW, The dealer in question is in Lincoln.

if you don't already have a car and want lots of power the Abarth is undoubtedly the way to go

you do not need the esseesse kit, just a remap to take the car from 135 to 160 bhp

160 bhp for £14k in a sorted chassis - bargain

Ok, ok, I'll stop hassling you about forced induction on my 1.4 :D

Lol. Speaking of silly pursuits, there is a reasonably good condition red Porsche 944 for sale around the corner for £900. I have had to stop myself stopping for a look by deliberately driving the long way around.

944 a bit long in the tooth now but 968's are good track tools - esp the Cup version

but no way near as cool as a trackday Fiat 500:cool:

I asked about turbo charging my 1.4 sport and they said i couldn't for about 3,000 but fiat wouldn't be doing it, that's why i've ordered the Abarth :)

Only certain dealerships are doing them he just wanted money by the sounds of it, i've had to drive hour to order mine from somewhere but worth it :)

xXxXx

I was going to ask the sales people about this last night but totaly forgot, but most of the questiones i was asking them they didnt really know

I really dont think they will release a kit for it tho thats what the abarth is for
