Thinking of buying a 500 sometime this year but the current engine range available are pretty poor just wondered if there are any plans to introduce a 120 BHP 1.4 or a more powerful 1.9 diesel engine like the puntos have.

The cars occupy different sectors so it wouldnt really be in Fiats interests to do so IMO. Incidentally the 8v 1.9 oil burner is supposedly being dropped in favour of the 16v 1.6 which meets emmissions regs better with little or no power sacrifice.

Buy a 1.9 MJet GPS I say and enjoy!

I've managed to get 117 out of my 1.4 with induction and re-map. I'm sure with exhaust we could crack 120 fairly easily. And that's without opening the engine up to do anything more with it. I know there are at least 2 supercharger kits out there, aiming for 150 I believe.

I've got mine to 120 without anything done to the engine :)

Impressive.... 120 bhp 500 with no engine mods...

Or did you think this Thread was about Miles per Hour?

I guess you will say you were joking or tongue in cheek :p

I was on about the speed meaning why would you need remap it get better bhp when you can get good speeds out of it anyway?

Cos bhp isnt about just speed. No-one was talking speed. And I think you will find your true speed was less than that TBH ;)

Car Performance Honesty Rules

Rule One: Do not believe the speedometer. It Lies. Rather a lot.

Rule Two: Admit it - the section of road where you clocked that 100+ m/h was, at least slightly, downhill. There was probably also a following wind.

Rule Three: (on the Fiat 500, anyway) Do not believe the rev counter either, it also lies.

:) John

I believe that one. Where does the rev-limiter kick in with 1.4?
I got it to almost 7.000rpm the other day.....i'm not kidding.

The limiter kicks in at 7,200 rpm on the clock (incidentally, the 1.4 is still pulling hard at this point and would go further). But it is not actually 7,200, as you will find if you use Vbox or PerformanceBox and do some test runs. The limiter is actually kicking in at around 6,750 to 6,800 rpm, which fits in with the rolling road data we have for the 1.4 engine. It is very easy to hit the limiter in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (too easy!). So far I have not managed it in 4th.

Over on the Panda forum now is a thread with rolling road data for a Panda 100hp (the latest we have), and their max engine speed was 6,880 rpm. Red Dot data also indicates a limiter point of about 6,750. So it's pretty much the same deal. It would be nice (and I suspect it could be done via mapping) to shift the limiter point to a genuine 7,500 rpm and then work on induction/cams/exhaust to push max power to around 7,000. But I expect this might invalidate your warranty, and there might be issues with the hydraulic tappets as well. Ho hum.
