Hallo all

My first post, and I didnt want to hijack the Bodyshop thread. Please be nice and gentle.

I picked up my 1.2 Yellow Pop last Monday, and was horrified to find yellow paint spray near side rear tyre.

On further inspection there was much evidence of overspray on the rear number and undertray/black stoneguard. Very slight damage to bodywork wheelarch.

I was understandably 'distressed'. Unsure of whether I was more insulted that no one has cleaned the yellow paint off the tyre !!!!!!!!

The plot thickens when my dealership (Nameless at this time) pulled out what appeared an official Doc from Fiat UK with full details of the 'prang'.....

The guys were very apologetic and are putting it right Monday, free hire car and tank of petrol.... HOWEVER...

I would welcome thoughts if I get the Orange Peel effect on repair/bad body repair....

And just what the heck is going on for my car to get delivered in such an unprofessional half arsed manner. Fiat UK or dealer??

Anyone, and what happens if the repair goes badly wrong?? :worship:

Pics to follow of the sprayed tyre if anyone is interested.... it was just a joke!!!!!

Unfortunately cars are sometimes damaged before the customer gets them. Just putting the car in the bucket and giving them a new one is extremely bad business for them and a repair is the only way forward for them at this stage.

At this point there is not much point in worrying about what to do if the repair is not upto scratch as most of the time they are perfect. Most people who have a car that was damaged before they got will never know it has happened.

Paint on the tyre does indicate a job that is definately not good enough. Second attempt will most likely be good enough.

Also if your dealer had a letter from Fiat UK about the damage then it will have happened before your dealer ever received the car.

And welcome to Fiatforum.com

Probably repaired at Portbury by the import centre, they are pretty shoddy as Ive experienced their repair work on a new Panda. They know that someone else will fix it properly later... just get your dealer to make sure its all repaired properly.

I just had to have a gouge scratch that the dealer did before delivery repaired on teh paintwork and I cannot see where it was before. My advice is to lay in on thick that you are really unhappy and impress upon them that you want a 1st class job doing.

I was dreading the car going back for the 'repair' but when i picked it up honestly hand on heart I have no idea where the awful scratch was now.

:)

Thanks for all your kind messages and excusing my typo's !

Whilst I focussed on the negatives, I must say I traded in my very engaging Smart Roadster that was also a talking point wherever it parked...

My Fiat Pop is a fantastic engaging drive, much beter screwed togeher than my old car...

Fingers crossed for the repair....

I had 2 bulbs go within a couple of weeks....

I hoodwinked my brother to do them, took maybe 30-40mins and he lost most of his skin (Knuckles!) but it was just about doable. Brute Force removing the black panel as I recall just for starters.

Mind you, the lights were like candles :)

Smart Roadster, a design icon?? And yet so bad in the basic areas.

Dont even mention the leaks...... yet you had to love it through it all.

As a side note, servicing from Mercedes Benz was also through the roof.

Latest update.....

Keeping upbeat but its hard...

Dealer called to say theyre keeping my car another day as the paint is reacting badly.

On the positive side, at least theyre trying hard to get it right.

Negative side, cant help thinking this shouldnt be happening and it should be easy and a moment of joy to get a new motor (n)

Yes Steely, apparently my car was a brand new yellow 1.2 pop!!

However on delivery their was evidence of yellow paint spray on the tyre (On close inspection evidence of overspray around the near side rear bumper and a tiny mark on the metal wheelarch).

Basically it had kissed the transporter or something sim before getting to me.

I was and am in 6 minds whether to 'spit the dummy', but am giving the guys the benefit and opportunity to sort. Patience and confidence eroding :bang:

i'd personally not be happy with that, but i spit my dummy out quite a bit,

either ask as a good will gesture for some money back as there is clear evidence of a repair on a new car, which by rights they cant advertise as a new car,

or, dont accept it and request another car, At the end of the day its your brass your parting with and why should you get one which has needed repair work doing to it when someone else can get the exact same car with no repairs for the same price,

even if they are doing their best to sort it, you shouldnt have to accept that, well i know i wouldn't

Latest update is ive spat the dummy...

My milesage has started flashing, and the fornt grill isnt clipped into place (Yes I have tried to pop it back).

Further evidence that the numbnuts garag actually had brains to place any panels they removed.... and.... you guess it, place them on the rear parcel sheflf and rear seats with no cover which has left yet more evident yellow paint on them.

Fundamentally, im still p++sed with the Morals and Ethics that Fiat UK knowingly supply a new car thats been pranged with a hasty respray!!!

Its about morals and ethics for me now im afraid:slayer:

You are within your rights to reject the car. If I found a brand new car I had bought had been damaged and not repaired perfectly, I would reject immediately.

Thanks for support, views and opinions guys. My opinion and using the letter of the law to hit them with is simple.

Goods should be "as described", its described as "new", hence numerous repaints, resprays later will not alter that most basic of fact.

Ive paid a "new" price for a clunked motor !

Still, its going to be an uphill struggle I feel and involve jumping through the hoops they will no doubt lay down.

Get advice from CAB or solicitor if you intend to reject. That way they know you're serious. If you reject you will have to pay a small nominal amount for any mileage you have doe in the car (if you've done any).
Good luck.

REJECT the car in writing, both to dealer and Fiat UK.
what you see in the showroom is what you expect to be delivered to you.
If you have taken finance out on the car,Contact the Legal Liason Officer or the company, explain the problem, and let them take it up for you.

From what I hear the Yellow is the best paint jon on the 500 range, but its also a nightmare to repair.

Dont settle for repair MANE THEM CHANGE THE CAR.

Tara Ian

p.s. take a note of engine and chassis number in caes they try and pull a fast one.

Reject the car now.

The longer you leave it, the harder it gets.

Get your money back and either order a new one, or buy something else.
