Just one thing...my fiat dealer hasn't mentioned about taking in the insurance policy document cover early or anything!?!

How will he be able to tax and register the car without it? I rang today and they said they didn't need it. Plus I have been round to the garage and I don't think the little 500 is there yet...I am getting really worried now...I hope I do get it on Monday!

some dealers will insure the car for you for a short period, just ask them if that is what they are doing for you.

Yes I should ring again tomorrow but I don't want to seem like I am pestering. But then again I am paying near on 10K! I HOPE HOPE HOPE it will be there on Monday?

Stu, unless NU have contacted jimmy and made him waste half an hour of his time answering all sorts of questions it won't be that. Only when they have gone through their routine do they email the dealer with the insurance details.

Jimmy, if I was you I would ring first thing and ask them how they are managing to tax the vehicle in YOUR name without your insurance cover note. The last thing you want is having the dealer listed as first owner.

It's quite possible that they have a blanket insurance cover and a dispensation to be able to tax their cars under different names as when you look at the tax disc the amount will be £38.50, not the normal £35.00. This is the first registration tax that you have on all new cars and it is quite possible that this might be how they are doing it for you.

Monday is going to take such a long time to come. Get pics quick so that you can be the first 58 reg on the forum.

Do dealers normally break promises for delivery dates and not tell you till the last minute?

It could be in their preparation area locked away, at my dealer they have a cleaning bay up the road at a different dealer, your car should be around someplace. Im sure they would have told you if it wasnt arriving for Monday.

Well i hope so or I will have their guts for garters!!!!!! I am sure they should have told me by now if there was a delay!

Hmm, good point I seem to recall giving some details to a call-centre when I picked up the 100HP

Fiat have a free 7 day insurance plan. That's how they registered mine. Ask the dealer about it. All you have to do is ring them up and give them your details.

More than likely.
When I got my civic I didn't need to hand in any documents etc.
Got 7 days free insurance and saves the dealer any hassle too.

Right I am ringing up tomorrow and finding out whats going on...I WANT MY 500 ON MONDAY and I WILL NOT BE HAPPY TILL I GET IT!!!!

we arranged the free cover 1 hour before collecting the car they fax the covernote to the dealer who then goes n tax's it for you..

I just dont get this. No one has told me to do anything about the free insurance or anything. All I have done is ring up my insurance company who have given me a new cover note stating the new car reg and that it starts on the 1st September. I rang up the dealer today and they said they didn't need to have it until Monday...what is going on?

I think you need to calm down.... your dealer has told you the cars being delivered Monday and they dont need your cover note till then so whats the issue?
You can go in and hand over the cover note on Monday and they can tax the car there and then, its common practice.

My dealer gave me a phone number for the Fiat 7 day insurance, they email them a code or something when you've phoned them and gone through all the stuff.

I've got my new insurance certificate dated 13th Sept and have taken to the garage for taxing. I would ring tomorrow and then take your insurance certificate in to them so they can tax for you.

My smart car was taxed on the morning of pick up so don't worry too much - but they DO need an insurance cert from you.

My car is in a secure compound about 3 miles from the dealer and they won't bring round until the day i'm collecting so your car will probably be held elsewhere as well.

I have an issue with the fact that in the original information pack I was handed when I ordered I read that I had to take cover policy in etc etc. However, I keep hearing different things. Also, whenever I ring the dealer they aren't too helpful and are very relaxed about everything (not normal car dealer mind set). They are relaxed almost to the point on lying down. Also, I have had two calls over the past week from the dealer asking me if I want to test drive the new 500...I promptly told them I had ordered one to which they apologised. This happened twice. Reading all the posts on here about the delivery orders and the fact that someone I know was promised a delivery of a new fiat this week but arrived at the dealership and it wasnt there, coupled with the phones calls I am feeling rather anxious about the whole thing!!

Have they actually rung you to confirm your car is there? If so, no need to worry - they wouldn't do that unless they actually had it in their hands. My dealer rang me 2 weeks ago to say that car was there at the dealership.

Just give them a ring for your sanity's sake tomorrow and confirm the car is there and remind them that you haven't taken in insurance stuff.

Thanks Heidi...I have never bought a car before...had my seicento given to me...I am just not sure what is what and I think I am more excited than ever about the new 500!
