Shell USA said:
What is the octane rating of Shell V-Power?
Octane ratings for premium gasoline vary across the country. The octane level of Shell V-Power is anywhere from 90 to 93 octane, depending on the region. It’s important to point out, however, that octane is not the only factor to consider when choosing a fuel. For example, many cars that don’t require higher octane can benefit from the cleaning power provided by Shell V-Power.

There V-Power is lower than our regular! No wonder it's cheap. They proberly fill their regular out with sawdust or something. :D

American Octane numbers and ours are different. There is a converter here:

http://www.csgnetwork.com/octaneratecalc.html

95 octane in Europe is 89 in the states

Or maybe this post from another froum might help (although slightly contradictory):

US 91 octane (RON+MON/2) is the same as EU 95 octane (RON). Use the 91 octane for best performance. Note the EU 95 RON is the lowest we get here in the UK, hence the usual advice in the EU is to use the cheapest available - this doesn't apply in the US.

Hi there my name's Stephen. Is the car still in the Port Washington area? I live about 10-15minutes away from there in New Hyde Park and I would absolutely love to see this car in person. Closest I've been to one was in Italy last year during the reveal day and saw the 500 on car transporters under covers:(

Finn Macools was on Gordon Ramsays nightmare kitchens

Nice try....

But there's dozens of 'Finn McCools' in the US and that's the Kitchen Nightmare one...

Hi Steve
Sam Germana from Fiat & Lancia Unlimted is looking after the 500 while it's in the Port Washington area but I'm not sure on if he's taking it anywhere for display during the time there. Other wise you'll need to come to the Fiat Freakout 2008 to see it (google it)

Thanks Jim. I'll look into the Fiat Freakout, sounds like a good time. And if Sam decides to show it off in the meantime please let me know. Thanks again.

I asked Sam what he thought of the car and the bit about the local guys looking to see the car...

Hey, Jim. first, if you get requests from local people to see it, I can maybe bring it to a local place where car people hang sometimes on Saturday. That would be the "Americana in Manhasset." It is about a mile from my house. Maybe next Saturday morning I could bring it there if there are inquiries and interest.

Michael (Sam's son) and I took the Long Island Railroad to Penn Station, then New Jersey Transit to Newark, then a cab to Port Newark. Picking up the car went 100% fine (except for finding the VIN; more on that in second).
There was NO wait. Two years ago, it was steaming hot and took all day. This was a dream pick up.
Only little delay was finding the Vehicle ID Number. The guard at the gate as we were leaving had to check that to be sure we were taking the right car. We could not find it in ANY of the places a US car would have it. Finally, Michael checked the manual. It said it was under a mat in the "boot.: What? Oh, the trunk. And there it was, stamped in the sheet metal. The guard told us to drive it health and we were on our way.
Except for occasionally reaching for the door handle to shift, I got used to it very fast.

The car is an absolute blast to drive. My son Michael loves it and he is a BMW/ Porsche guy.
What I cannot get over is the Honda like quality of the whole thing. We in the USA last saw a new Fiat of any type 20 years ago. As much as I love all Fiats, the ones we know are primitive. Most didn't have power steering, and if they did have A/C it worked as well as a hamster blowing on an ice cube. Also most parts were somewhat flimsy.

With the 500, it has so much style for a little car. So many quality touches. The steering wheel alone is something to stare at. I would absolutely make this my daily commuter if Fiat brought it to the USA.

Well, of course the car got stares galore. A bunch of teeny bopper girls on Main Street squealed "Look at that!"
Like the shot in front of Finn McCool's, a local Irish type place? One of my wife's favorites. I think we are going there tonight.

The car is tucked away in my garage, Didn't get wet in last night's thunderstorm. ;-)

Thanks very much for permission to drive it. I will, a bit, but of course sparingly. I want to keep it safe and sound for its proud owner. Any questions or anything you need, just say the word.
Here are a few more pics.

Sam

Sam has been fantastic.

He is a Director of one of the local New Jersey hospitals and two years ago he went to lift the panda for me and on his lunch hour from the docks. Well, as he said it kinda took all day and he'd been standing round in his suit for hours in the sweltering sun only to jump into my 1991 Fiat Panda 1000S to find that there was no aircon and he had to drive it back across New York in temperatures of over 100'F... Then he moved his own car from his parking space at work so that the panda would be safe (Remember I paid a 100 quid for it and Sam was treating it like it was a Ferrari Enzo!)

By the time that I caught up with him later in the day he was looking a bit the worse for wear and I did feel really guilty for putting him thou so much hardship just over a bloody panda! LOL

He deserves his time with the 500, believe me!(y)
