General Fiat 500 Airfreshner

General Fiat 500 Airfreshner

Ewwwww, nottsfiat07 :p how crude.

I loved the idea of the proper Fiat airfreshner... however, I found that my £1 clip-on-the-fan type airfreshner from Aldi does the job quite nicely. Also the blue liquid matches the colour of my car

I have, however, gone out on a whim recently and bought a Jelly Belly jelly bean air freshner. Mmm, jelly beans :D

A piece of cardboard with some essential oil works nicely for me in my car. The chemicals that are in synethic 'air freshners' are none to nice IMO, and frankly I do my best to escape them in all aspects of my life.

Mark Elvin has one... it does seem very pricey, especially when you see the cost of replacement elements. Your 500 will smell very nice when its new, and when that wears off in time, just put some nice deodorant on:)

I found that if you keep the car really clean inside the new smell lasts for ages - i bought mine in September and can still smell "new" (more when the weather is warm) (y)

the unit has a fan in the bottom you switch it on using the on off button then on top is a speed button for the fan which obv controlls the smell strength not realy sure on how long the scent ring lasts, mine is now empty but if i use it i can still smell it even after 12 month's use, it looks pretty cool and fits in with the rest of the interior perfectly you can get it in ivory or black to further match the car's int expensive but worth it.

The 'new' smell is the chemicals and gasses leaching from the cars new materials. :) I think the plastics and glue leach more when in warm weather.

In Australia new car owners are 'requested' to drive with the windows open for the first six months!

"The distinctive smell of fresh upholstery, gleaming plastic and polished paintwork is one of the pleasures of owning a new car. Until now. That seductive "new car smell" can be dangerous to your health.

Many new cars emit a cocktail of potentially toxic chemicals that can cause headaches, nausea and drowsiness. For some people, these compounds can even provoke serious allergic reactions.

The problem is worrying many of the big car-makers. Some, such as Toyota, Ford and Volvo, are embarking on little-publicised programmes to cut down on the toxic and allergenic chemicals.

But these measures have raised questions about the Government's failure to take action on people's exposure to household chemicals.
Unlike in countries such as Sweden and Japan, there are no official regulations in the UK to limit the public's exposure to suspect chemicals and compounds inside their homes or cars.

Japanese manufacturers such as Honda, Toyota and Nissan have launched a scheme to cut 13 toxic chemicals after finding that levels of dangerous compounds were several times higher in cars than allowed under Japan's strict air-safety limits for homes and offices

The risky materials and chemicals used include styrene, benzene and formaldehyde, and Latex, a known allergen. On top of that, some of the flame retardants used are known to cause cancer."

"A Daily Telegraph article on the study described the enjoyment of new car smell as "akin to glue-sniffing".

Nice! :yum: lol

:D Slight contradiction in terms but I know what you meant. LOL. I think that they are so expensive in real terms, in fact I could have bought one for £20 on ebay(with one refill) and I thought that it was still too much money, IMHO.

Also, the fact that the lighter socket is then redundant becomes a little annoying, especially if you are on a trip and need to use sat nav or charge phone.

Take one out and put one in? I know what you mean though!
Also my dogs like to travel in my car that is why I purchased one of these, not because I do not use shower gel!

Look this will be news to some people in charge of our nanny state but...

WE WONT LIVE FOREVER!!!

One of the best things of having a new car is the new car smell... and now they want to take that away from us on the off chance we might get something nasty from the pong? Last I heard, driving a car sometimes results in death or non functioning body parts... but I think I'm willing to take the chance. I'm such a rebel.

On another note... if my 500 smelled as bad as my Pug after 3 years of sweaty dogs travelling in it... I would probably be bidding on the air freshener myself!

The annoying thing is they'll use it as an excuse to put up the price of new cars and then make all the interiors out of something stupid like cardboard and tree bark. three years later you'll be driving round in a disintergrating paper mache box - remember the sixties and seventies car interiors,:yuck:

Funny thing is, I seem to remember reading some fiat blurb a few years back (may have been around the time the Stilo was introduced, but I can't back that up with proof) which said that they had eliminated all the bits of noxiousness that created the new car smell, for touchy feely our car is 99% recyclable and has no environmental impact unless you're a rabbit reasons, and so there wasn't going to be a new car smell in that way any more. Was it just advertising hyperbole like them saying the 500 has a super-smooth ride and that?

Oh and I'm really sorry but the fact that "air freshener" is spelled wrongly on the title is bugging me big time.

Saab used to use an adhesive containing fish products (for some reason). Everything was fine, until it got wet and your car started to stink like an old kipper.

For the same reason, if you wave an emery board in front of your cat, they'll probably chew it.............
Fish glue!
Pooh!

No wonder we're all so happy driving around in our 500's then lol :ROFLMAO:

That's what people said about asbestos, lead water pipes, tobacco, tin cans..... :slayer:

How much does cancer caused directly by new car plastic and glue fumes cost the NHS a year?

How much does cancer, heart disease, cardiovascular diseases, lung disease, respiratory problems to name but a few caused directly by smoking cost the NHS a year?

Are we saying the items listed above and new car fumes are comparable? By the way, I refuse to accept the world is not flat, and I'll fight anyone who says it isn't. Have you never seen discworld with David Jason? Don't tell me Sky lies to us.
