These questions come up fairly often.......

My start stop doesn't work?

The S&S system will not work if:

The engine is cold,

The battery is low on charge,

Heated rear window is activated,

The windscreen wipers are on full speed,

The drivers door is open or the drivers seatbelt is undone..

In the case of a Diesel with DPF if a regeneration cycle is taking place

If the car is in reverse

If climate control is active

or when a new battery has been fitted or the old one disconnected for between 50 and 100 miles..

My car restarts itself after a short period?

battery not sufficiently charged

wipers are switched to full speed

car detects a lack of brake pressure at the servo

the car begins to roll eg on a hill

after a approximately 3 minutes....

How do i jump start my 500 with start stop?

Its vital that you do not connect the negative jump lead to the battery terminal directly as this can damage the battery sensor...

instead.....

connect live to live battery terminals between the donor car and the 500...

connect the negative to a clean bit of metal in the engine compartment such as the engine block on both cars..... as far from the battery as possible..

once started remove the negative lead first...

My start stop never works any more?

in the first instance a proper charge using a smart or pulse charger should be your plan of attack

Fully remove the battery from the car (or atleast remove both battery terminals)

charge the battery ideally at no more than 4ah until the charger cuts out..

disconnect the charger and leave the battery to stand for at least one hour before reconnecting to the car (this gives surface charge a chance to dissipate) then drive the car normally and after a few drives it should begin working ......

If this fails to sort the issue

after several drive cycles park up somewhere safe after a decent drive >10 miles or so

release the bonnet catch...

get out and lock the car and time 10 minutes

without unlocking the car open the already released bonnet and measure the voltage with a decent multimeter between the 2 battery posts..

if the voltage has dropped below 12.72v (dc) either you have some after market accessory drawing a load when the car is off or the battery is low on deep charge or faulty.... Its next to imposible for a alternator to fully recharge a deeply discharged battery,.....

The man at the local fast fit place is going to fit me a new battery.......

Great but ensure its a Enhanced Cycling Mat Technology battery of the correct rating and its been fully charged and left to stand for an hour before fitting. A standard battery wont survive the higher charge current and the frequent start stop discharge pattern
