Gents,
I was hoping someone could help me out with the identification of a spare motor I came by gratis. It came out of a 500, but the owner didn't know the provenance.

Attached are pics of the block and head stampings. Little help please?

Thanks!

I think that you will find that the engine is a 594cc engine out of a 500R, the very last version of the 500. Fiat produced these cars at the same time as the 1st of the 126s were being brought onto the market. Fiat deliberately fitted a small carb on these engines to make them slower than the Mk1 126, which had the same engine, but was heavier. A good, and easy mod is to fit the 28IMB carb off a 652cc Mk2 126. It can be fitted to a 500, but you will need a 126 bell housing for the gearbox and a matching 126 starter---the cable-pull variety.
