Hi all .just wondering what everybody pays for insurance. I live in Spain and have been quoted from 50€ (£45ish) for basic 3rd party up to 225€ for 3rd party, fire +theft+ glass +road assistance
What do you all think?
Is 225€ a year too much to protect all my hard work?

I don’t pay anywhere near £200 more like £100. I can’t remember the exact figure? Fully comp, limited mileage and agreed value of £13,000.

I live in Ireland....
We've got the Euro also. And Euro prices.......
Insurance Companies here now have what they call a 'Minimum Premium' ( set my them, of course.) This might be Euro 280 or Euro 335 or what ever the specific Co. feel like making it! So OP's figures are not achievable here.

Classic car insurance seems to be really cheap in the U.K. going by figures given in some of the classic car mags.

Have you tried an Insurance Broker. Try to find one who specializes in arranging cover on Classic vehicles.

Ask around other classic car owners at car events, gatherings, shows and from club members in your own country/region.

See if there is anything you can offer to do to reduce cost of insurance e.g. mileage restriction, garaging of car, etc.

Maybe it's possible to insure the car for less than a full year?

Or include it on another policy? Some classic car policies allow more than 1 vehicle to be covered, maybe have someone else add your car to their policy and add you as a named driver?

A good Broker should know all the ins-and-outs.

Analyze the above.
225 - 50 = E.175 (no Euro symbol on my keyboard but I have got $, £ wth.)

Roadside Assistance? If you've done a good job rebuilding/maintaining your car, you shouldn't need roadside assistance. If you do, you've got E.175 in the kitty. Buy a tow-rope.

Glass cover? - which glass might you need to replace? Windscreen? You've got E.175 in the kitty.

Theft cover? Presumably, you don't want your 'pride and joy' stolen, so you'll already have fitted an alarm or sort sort of immobiliser for security. Also you won't park or leave it anywhere it's unduly vulnerable. e.g. you won't park it outside a Bar or Nightclub at closing time. ( a friend of mine came out to find his 500 turned upside down!  )

Fire cover? With proper maintenance, sound fuel pipes etc. you hopefully won't need this. Carry a fire-extinguisher (a big one!).

I'd grab the offer of 3rd party cover for E.50 and drive carefully.

If I was worried e.g. possibility of vandalism etc, I'd be thinking seriously about Comprehensive cover instead.

Here in Spain you aren't allowed to tow a car ,it has to be by a small transporter which I presume would cost about 100€ +-.
As the car is 45 Years old and petrol driven I just want to be covered against problems.
I don't think vandalism will be a problem as it is locked away in my garage and wouldn't be left anywhere on its own.

One of the 500 chaps here had his parked on the street in one of the wealthiest suburbs in Australia. I say that because it wasn’t a dodgy area and he still came out to find some drunks standing on the roof taking photos of each other. The sunroof and roofing caved in. Lucky he was insured.
Today I was enjoying watching people walk past little blue. A little girl stopped and said “it’s Luigi, it’s my car I can drive my friends everywhere.” She started to pull on the door handles then the sunroof before her parents pulled her away. Anyway it was cute but the point is they seem to attract attention whether you want it or not, even if just parked in a public space for a short time.

An interesting point, which has been anecdotally observed before, that people seem to feel more at liberty to approach, touch and even to open doors, engine-lid etc. on this car.

Very interesting about not being allowed to tow a car in Spain.

Both of my insurance policies specifically say I can tow one (single-axle) trailer or one disabled vehicle. As if I was going to tow more than one....

I haven't seen a car being towed using a tow-rope in many years. But I do see, very frequently, modern cars on the back of small car transporters, probably due to the inadvisability of attempting to tow a car with servo brakes or power-steering inoperable.
