The replacement mirror was intended for an earlier model that does not have the external temperature sensor
If the computer doesn't know the outside temperature it won't regenerate the DPF - increased emissions...engine management light on...

I can only guess why the computer needs to know the ambient temp
But neighbour melted the tarmac doing a forced regen, that would have been even more dangerous in a higher ambient temp?
