Cinquecento 1998 Sporting Broom Yellow (Sting!).

Introduction

Brought her on the 22nd of September And she's not exactly in stunning condition but she'll get there :D
Re: 1998 Sporting Broom Yellow (Sting!)

She came to me pretty dirty and I dread to think how man hours I spent but when I did finish I was really chuffed with the quality of the paintwork and the lack of deep swirling ;D. I must admit I am still cautious on my feet as it very different from other cars I have driven, but tenfold more amounts of fun. I do really want to get on a local meet now but there don't seem to be any running atm :/

Re: 1998 Sporting Broom Yellow (Sting!)

My mind is in several different places at the moment regarding where to go with this little thing. I love the look of a rally style conversion with front driving lights and mudflaps etc, but after seeing Delarue's cinq I really want to have that kind of look, however im not sure about black bumpers on the brrom yellow. So many hard decisions :(
Also looking about indefinately for a tricker TB, induction kit and a set of Golf mk2 GTI 'side trims' that will make my arches a bit wider so I can pack them out with some big offset ;D

Re: 1998 Sporting Broom Yellow (Sting!)

Yeah I've been browsing the deepest depths of the search function over the last couple of days about the topic and the only other option seems to be the golf set, plus I like the two tone look. My main quandry is that I don't want it to seem to be out of the inbetweeners. God forbid as I got to college and the amount of stick I'd get for it

Re: 1998 Sporting Broom Yellow (Sting!)

I'm aware about the insurance, that's why I'm simply formulating plans for next year when I start earning the money to pay for these and get all the goodies covered. Plus the sensibility factor of it, for my common use I can't lower the car and the car gets dirty within a day from where I have to leave it parked, so It's not worth ruining the hard work so quickly!
But we can all dream!

Re: 1998 Sporting Broom Yellow (Sting!)

Just a little update, and not one with good news. I managed to polish and wax the car last Friday and was chuffed with how she looked, and alas a friendly bird came along the day after :bang:. Also my car started to develop a funny groaning noise whilst operating the clutch, of course it had to be on the weekend, and my mechanic friend would pick up either :(. So I had to use the car for work today regardless, and on the way home the emergence of a horrible knocking noise occurs around my gearstick. Only just got home so too dark to look, but it was serviced 700 miles ago, and has had some iffy problems with 3rd and 5th. So I'm assuming it could be the worst and the gearbox could be shot :(. However everyone loves pictures so here is a couple! Forgot to mention uncovering a bit of crash damage when I took the bumper off! Curse the previous 14 owners!

Re: 1998 Sporting Broom Yellow (Sting!)

Diagnosis from garage:
Groaning didn't come up again, so not a clue.
Funny whirring noise from the clutch is thrust bearing being problematic.
Massive knocking noise : SOMEONE TRYING TO STEAL MY WHEELS. Or simply annoyed at me for owning a cooler car. Lesson learnt from this, always have locking nuts.

Re: 1998 Sporting Broom Yellow (Sting!)

So I have finally got down to sorting this big rust problem, which has become a big problem.
Started by removing all the loose and excess rust with a wire brush and this left a few holes. The rust was cured with rust-eeze or something, the hole was covered with Alu mesh and some metal bonding stuff that was used to fill the mesh. Sanded down after it was dry and painted with waxoyl, inside was sprayed with tetroseal and hopefully this will help stop the spread :D
And then I picked up a late Christmas present for £50, just need to clarify what is needed to fit them ;)
